Location: Wichita, KS

Pay Range: $126,200 - $168,200 (Minimum – Midpoint)

Scheduled Work Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Position will occasionally require work outside of normally scheduled hours. Note: This role requires incumbents to live within a reasonable distance (Ex: 30 miles) from the Wichita Operations Center to ensure timely response for operational needs.

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Directs business and construction and maintenance activities for the distribution system serving the Wichita Metropolitan area. Responsible for managing distribution operations in a safe, cost-effective manner, while maintaining quality customer service. Responsible for directing, monitoring, and coordinating the work of the Supervisors, Construction and Maintenance and their crews. Directs storm restoration efforts within the Division during emergency conditions in order to promptly restore electric service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Major responsibilities include:

  • Promotes safety and safe work practices through open, honest communication with the work group.
  • Formulates and recommends improved methods and procedures for the safe and efficient utilization of construction, operations and maintenance personnel and equipment.
  • Directs the scheduling of work and manpower to effectively complete required projects and meet customer driven deadlines.
  • Assures that construction standards and other policies and procedures are developed appropriately and followed.
  • Monitors the performance and development of the Supervisors, Construction & Maintenance.
  • Promotes customer service through meeting of in-service dates, timely resolution of complaints, and general customer care.
  • Coordinates with Customer Solutions Group to ensure exceptional service to large customers.
  • Settles property damage claims with external customers.
  • Supports community and charity events.
  • Assures the integrity and reliability of the distribution system by monitoring and improving reliability and response metrics.
  • Responsible for 5-year Wichita Distribution Operations budget planning, including project identification, design, and completion.
  • Responsible for current year budget adherence, and cost control process for the Wichita Distribution group.
  • Acts as on-call duty manager for after-hours issues in Wichita.
  • Directs storm restoration efforts.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with other management teams across the company to optimize the use of resources.
  • Coordinates with support groups as needed to ensure success of the group.
  • Administers the bargaining unit agreement fairly and consistently.

Education and Experience Requirements

The preferred candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree. This position requires six years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes: field operations (such as construction or engineering experience on the electrical distribution system), managing or supervising operations, and/or project management. Supervisory experience and knowledge of the collective bargaining process is required.

• Aptitude to successfully adhere to the provisions of the bargaining unit agreement, the regulations of the state commissions, the rules and regulations of the Dept of Transportation, OSHA, the EPA and the National Electrical Safety Code

• Excellent customer service skills – this position will require frequent contact with customers, civic and community organizations, government offices and agencies, public works departments, local fire and law enforcement agencies, consulting firms and media

Licenses, Certification, Bonding, and/or Testing Required

Must have a valid driver's license.

Working Conditions

This position will require work in the office and field. Frequent visits to the field in all types of weather conditions are required. Some overnight travel is required. Successful applicant must have a satisfactory work record, including good attendance. This position requires work outside of normal hours on short notice.
