Mechanical Engineer II

The Mechanical Engineer II role is a professional level position responsible for performing and analyzing routine to moderately complex engineering functions while applying mathematical, physical science, and engineering technologies. These functions include quality control function designs, and specifications while achieving cost-effective and reliable manufacturing and measuring processes.

Assists in the design and project/process management of products, requirements, programs, components, tools, and acceptance equipment under technical guidance.

Develops and tests inspection methods, which designate tooling, gauges, acceptance equipment, and processing procedures.

Defines and acquires equipment necessary to manufacture/inspect parts to ensure product quality.

Develops test procedures and performs routine to moderately complex engineering evaluation tests, data analysis, product and process capability studies, quality audits, product or project data reviews, and other engineering evaluation work to ensure product manufacturability.

Interacts with partners, customers, suppliers, and internal organizations to assist in resolving design, development, production, and acceptance issues.

Prepares evaluation reports, analyzes discrepancies, makes recommendations for, and initiates improvements for products, test equipment, procedures, and manufacturing or operating processes that enhance productivity and quality and reduce flow time.

Develops manufacturing and/or measuring methods which designate tooling, gages, acceptance equipment, and processing procedures.

You must have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited program in Engineering or Physics
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in engineering, analytical, or related technical activities.
  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job

  • Demonstrated data analysis and performance of Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) to conduct vetted Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience applying Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies and/or a desire to be trained/certified in either.
  • A continuous improvement mindset towards reducing waste, streamlining processes, and championing Lean-process development.
  • Experience in tooling design and inspection, and ensuring tooling processes meet design requirements.
  • The demonstrated ability to design, develop, evaluate, and apply quality control techniques to engineering projects.
  • The demonstrated ability to analyze engineering designs and specifications to achieve efficient and reliable manufacturing or acceptance processes.
