This position is with the Kansas Department of Transportation, located in El Dorado, Butler County. The work schedule is full time, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
The role involves administering numerous construction contracts to ensure work is performed per legal requirements and desired quality is achieved. The supervisor for this position is Scott Koopmann, a PCE II (Area Engineer) with position number K0225014.
The employee will have considerable latitude to complete technical, administrative, and supervisory duties. Instructions are broad in nature, and the employee is expected to use their own judgment within the technical guidelines provided by various manuals and policies.
Assignments are typically given orally, and work is reviewed for results accomplished rather than scrutinized for accomplishment methods.
The position requires providing effective leadership to the assigned work unit, including leading by example, providing performance objectives, midyear performance feedback discussions, timely performance reviews, coaching and counseling, discipline, and providing employee development opportunities for employees under your supervision.
The person in this position will provide engineering guidance and administration for the construction of highway and related construction projects. They will interpret specifications, plans, and special provisions to project personnel, conduct preconstruction conferences with contractors, utilities, county and city engineers to discuss potential problem areas, and coordinate construction schedules of all concerned for the timely completion of highway projects.
They will also supervise other engineering associates and engineering technicians in the administration of contract provisions for highway construction work and resolve conflicts between contractors and project personnel as to the intent of the plans and specifications.
