Court Services Officer II

Location of Employment: 20th Judicial District, Barton County, KS

Classification and Grade: Court Services Officer II, Grade 40, $66,087.95 annually

Job Duties: This is Court Services work supervising other Court Services officers and supervising clients under the jurisdiction of the district court or being furnished auxiliary services by the district court. This is the first level of staff supervision; an incumbent in this position will be responsible for assigning and supervising the work of one or more staff members. An incumbent in this position prepares reports related to investigations, transfers, or arrests; maintains records of contacts with clients and of the caseload in general. Additional duties include interviewing, hiring, orienting, and training new CSO's, providing ongoing direction, support, and guidance to CSO's. Work may be performed as part of a team and is under the direction of the Chief Court Services Officer, Court Administrator, and Chief Judge. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and evaluation reports.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree is required with preference given to degrees in a field of social services to include but not limited to corrections, counseling, criminal justice, criminology, psychology, and social work. This position requires attention to detail and strong written/oral communication skills in addition to computer skills. The ability to work both independently and with a team is required as is the ability to interact with clients and stakeholders in a professional manner. Ability to supervise staff and handle confidential personnel information is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of three years of experience working in the field of probation and/or corrections. Preference given to those who are currently or have prior experience as a Court Services Officer, especially in the areas of Pre-Sentence Investigation and Juvenile Supervision. Effective Practices of Community Supervision, Level of Services Inventory-Revised, and Youth Level of Services assessment tools is preferred. The ability to maintain calm in stressful situations and multi-task is important. Strong leadership and decision-making skills are desired.

Additional Requirement: All members of this classification are required to access criminal history record information (CHRI) through the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) or another criminal justice entity. Authorized access to KCJIS requires the employee to be: a U.S. Citizen, at least 18 years of age, and pass a record check of criminal activity and criminal history as defined by KCJIS Administrative Policy and Procedure Manual. The screening for criminal activity and criminal history must be completed prior to beginning employment. An offer for employment for a position in this classification is conditioned upon passing the criminal history check. Applicant must have a valid driver's license. Incumbents are required to undergo yearly criminal history record checks to continue to maintain access to KCJIS and CHRI.
