Polysomnographic Technologist (36hr, Nights)

Perform nocturnal sleep studies, monitoring patients during all stages of sleep; trial therapeutic interventions and evaluate their effectiveness with all studies conducted in regional sleep lab(s).

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Placement of EEG, EMG, and ECG according to the AASM and the 10-20 measurement system. Observe sleep and EEG dysfunctions by utilizing various monitors simultaneously in a safe and effective manner. Use of a computerized sleep lab system to score live acquired sleep data per the current AASM guidelines. Utilizing protocols developed by Sleep Medical Directors, provide therapeutic interventions for observed sleep dysfunction, measure and evaluate the results of interventions and make necessary adjustments resulting in a prescription for durable medical equipment.
  • Take a detailed sleep history from the patient and screen patients for appropriateness of testing. Participate in regular sleep case reviews.
  • Patient education to include the process of electrode placement and mask fitting relevant to the study and patient. Maintain an effective rapport with patient to facilitate patient compliance with procedures. Provide appropriate discharge instructions.
  • Perform safe and correct operation of equipment. Provide required equipment maintenance. Exhibit comprehensive knowledge and skill in interfacing computer-based information system and patient monitoring systems.
  • Contribute to the necessary quality and quantity control programs. Utilize a department specific quality assurance program in collaboration with the medical director and supervisor. Periodically review procedures and revise to reflect changes in practice and standards.
  • Monitor patients for all life-threatening events. Recognize and obtain medical assistance as required. Record and report all unusual occurrences. Maintain patient records and confidentiality per standard procedure.
  • Participate in learning opportunities as indicated to maintain the RPSGT and LPSGT as indicated by Kaiser Permanente and their respective institutions. Performs other duties as requested.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Completion of technical program OR minimum two (2) years experience with diagnostic monitoring.

Education:

  • N/A

License, Certification, Registration:

  • Polysomnographic Technologist License (Oregon) required at hire AND Polysomnographic Technologist Certificate required at hire
  • OR
  • Respiratory Therapist License (Oregon) required at hire
  • Basic Life Support required at hire

Additional Requirements:

  • Computer operations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years experience with computer-based diagnostic programs.
  • Minimum two (2) years clinical patient experience.
  • Respiratory Therapy SDS and or the ability to get the SDS within 6 months
  • Computer operations.
  • A.S. degree in health sciences.
