As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate Sector - Infrastructure Platforms team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives.

With network engineering, it plays a vital role in validating and maintaining the quality of network systems. This position involves designing and configuring test environments, developing and executing comprehensive test cases, and simulating real-world network scenarios through context creation. The engineer collaborates closely with network architects, security teams, and operations staff to identify areas for improvement, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous enhancements in network reliability and performance. Their work is essential for preventing outages, optimizing network resources, and supporting secure, scalable operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with the ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  • Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
  • Sets up and maintains network test environments, including hardware, software, and virtual configurations to design, develop, and execute test cases for network devices, protocols, and topologies
  • Creates new network contexts to simulate different user roles, traffic patterns, and system configurations
  • Analyzes test results, identifies network issues, and collaborates with engineering teams to resolve problems, while performing functional, performance, security, interoperability, and failover testing
  • Documents test plans, procedures, contexts, and outcomes for compliance and future reference
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to align on testing strategies and requirements to participate in incident response and root cause analysis for network-related issues
  • Supports network changes, upgrades, and deployments by validating readiness and identifying risks
  • Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
  • Adds to team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Formal training and certification on software and network engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  • Demonstrates how to develop secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others, with one or more programming language(s), scripting, and automation framework(s) (i.e., Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods, automate network test procedures, and data collection using scripting/SW languages
  • Experience working in collaborative, cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of network security principles and best practices and experience with incident response and root cause analysis
  • Hands on experience with networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs)
  • Experience with network testing tools (e.g., Wireshark, iPerf, Nmap, Netcat, Spirent, IXIA)
  • Familiarity with network hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Arista) and virtualization platforms (GNS3, EVE-NG, VMware)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Practical cloud native experience
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and documentation abilities
  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
