Johnson & Johnson (J&J) brings innovative medicines to patients around the world. Within J&J, E&PS FM is responsible for managing the facilities and utilities at all sites. In Belgium, the scope of E&PS FM includes the sites in Beerse, Geel, Olen, La Louvière, Courcelles, and Ghent.

In Ghent, J&J is operating CAR-T: chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy. This is a new and innovative approach to eliminate cancer cells. It works by harnessing the power of a patient's own immune system. That power is created from the patients' T cells and is engineered to eliminate cancer cells expressing a specific antigen.

The Ghent E&PS FM team manages the critical installations, facilities, and utilities (steam, cooling installations, heating equipment, water systems, compressed air, high voltage, …) of/for the Ghent manufacturing hubs. The main goal of the E&PS team in Ghent is to ensure that the building and building systems are available 24/7 in a safe and compliant manner for the occupants and their activities. The EP&S FM team in Ghent is recruiting a staff reliability engineer for the 2 production sites in Ghent and its future expansions. The position will be based in Ghent (Belgium), reporting into the senior facilities manager.

We are seeking a very experienced and technically skilled reliability engineer who will establish the foundations of our preventive maintenance (PM) methodology and strategy. The reliability engineer will be the absolute owner of the PM and be responsible for the maximum effectiveness of the PM methodology and strategy. Together with the scheduler, will be those responsible and accountable for outstanding and reliable PM.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in work management processes, facilities compliance, and maintenance reliability fundamentals. Proficient in the latest asset management technologies and systems, this role is key to ensure operational excellence, safety, and compliance.

You will be responsible for:

  • Facilities Asset Maintenance: Ensure adequate preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance for all facilities assets, leveraging advanced asset technology for optimal performance and lifecycle management. Responsible for managing the asset list/register and the asset history.
  • Work Management & Optimization: Together with the facilities manager, you drive the implementation and continuous improvement of work management processes, including work order planning, scheduling, execution, and tracking to ensure efficiency and accountability.
  • Facilities Compliance & Safety: Maintain adherence to all relevant regulatory standards, safety protocols, and environmental/sustainable requirements.
  • Asset Technology & Data Integration: Utilize and stay current with the latest asset management technologies, including IoT-enabled assets, to enhance maintenance planning, reliability, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Maintenance Reliability & Fundamentals: Apply principles of maintenance reliability, such as root cause analysis, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), to improve asset dependability and reduce downtime. Perform analysis of PM and seek for optimizations, unnecessities, and insufficiencies. Regular failure analysis is necessary. Manufacturers are to be challenged and questioned.
  • Leadership & Team Development: The E&PS FM CarT team is an unimaginably strong and gifted team. Fitting into this fantastic team is an absolute must. An even tighter collaboration is required between the reliability engineer and the scheduler, being the center of the PM. Short lines with the mechanical and electrical engineers are essential. Contribute and live a proactive safety culture and co-promote continuous learning within the team. Act as backup for the facilities manager.
  • System & Data Management: Proficiently operate and maintain computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track asset performance, generate reports, and support strategic decision-making. Add assets into CMMS in the best structured way and attribute master data to assets. Ensure effective and high-quality data maintenance in CMMS.
  • Budget & Performance Metrics: Develop and maintain relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) for facilities and utilities and implement initiatives that drive improvements. Report progress and plans to the senior manager and to site LT. Work closely with finance in order to establish appropriate depreciations.
  • Key Relationships: Establish and maintain excellent relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and our partners. Next to the key collaboration with the scheduler, a good understanding and cooperation with the mechanical and electrical engineers is crucial in order to initiate and achieve changes, improvements, … The E&PS FM CarT team participates as well in large(r) projects which results in maintaining good relationships with the E&PS project delivery teams.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Master's degree in engineering, architecture, life sciences, etc. or equivalent experience required. Excellent technical knowledge is required.
  • Minimum of 8-10+ years facilities management experience in facilities, utilities, and maintenance.
  • Experienced in GxP and quality management.
  • Strong personal leadership with demonstrated proficiency working with and within teams and strong relationship building skills are required.
  • Proven experience in facilities or maintenance management at an operational level.
  • Strong understanding of work management principles and systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of facilities compliance and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in CMMS and latest asset management technologies, including IoT systems.
  • Solid foundation in maintenance reliability practices and fundamentals.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • You know how to deal with continuously meeting tight timelines. You are extremely stress resistant.
  • You are willing to accept peak loads that manifest themselves in long days and long weeks and this several times per year (the shutdowns).
  • You possess an outspoken 'can do' mentality.
  • You are highly communicative, both written and spoken. Besides having a strong command of Dutch, you speak and write English fluently. Other languages are an additional asset.
