This individual will be part of the DePuy Synthes Digital Surgery Technical Operations Team, supporting instrumentation for robotic surgery. Responsibilities will include lifecycle management of instruments for the VELYS Enabling Tech platform, including VELYS TKA/UKA, VELYS Spine, and other hardware platforms.

They will use knowledge of manufacturing operations, project management, and enterprise-wide supply chains to function as an integral member of a team committed to sustainable world-class manufacturing & execution of key strategic NPI projects. Ensures continuity of supply by leading and participating in complex projects that require influencing and supporting multi-functional teams such as: R&D, Quality Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Sourcing, Plan, Make, External Operations and Environmental/Safety. Drives the development and implementation of Business Continuity Plans to mitigate against manufacturing and/or Supplier launch delays and long-term product supply disruption risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design and development of surgical instrument manufacturing processes & equipment, collaborating with external vendors, and driving process validation and improvement efforts across the supply base.
  • Responsible for collaborating with R&D engineers to develop designs in a multi-functional team environment, specifically to develop creative manufacturing solutions for robotic assisted surgery instrumentation.
  • Provide detailed assessments and critical Design For Manufacturing review of components and assemblies. Assess the design intent, manufacturability, proper dimensioning and tolerancing of components and assemblies to allow product to transition into the manufacturing environment.
  • Complete financial estimates of component and assembly Cost of Goods Sold. Provide analysis and recommendations for feature / mfg cost tradeoffs during the design phase of new products.
  • Develop comprehensive, cost effective manufacturing strategies, including supplier selection, to drive product team decisions on sourcing to achieve cost and time targets.
  • Assist vendors to resolve production issues and ensure effective root cause and corrective action analysis are used for our products.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering required, preferably Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic
  • Minimum 7 years of engineering experience required with BS, or 5 years with MS
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with responsibility for process development, cycle time, yield and cost improvements required
  • Experience working in medical device or similar regulated industry preferred
  • Experience in development or manufacturing of surgical instrumentation and/or implants preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing or product development of electronic devices and assemblies is a plus
  • Knowledge in the application of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), including industry standard methodologies and experience in applying DFM to new product designs preferred
  • Use of process improvement techniques such as 6 sigma and lean preferred
  • Proficient ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics required, including GD&T
  • Experience writing and performing equipment and process validations preferred
  • Experience working with an integrated new product development team preferred

The anticipated salary range for this position is $91,000 to $147,200. Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees and/or eligible dependents are eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
