The Senior Systems Integration Engineer for Operations will support the team lead in implementing the framework and processes to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the incredibly complex Johnson & Johnson OTTAVA Robotic System within the R&D organization. This is a role that lies at the intersection of hardware, software, robotics, and clinical engineering. This individual will have the opportunity to train and observe clinicians, key opinion leaders, and high-profile visitors interacting with the OTTAVA System. They will provide individual contributions and organizational management of the team's responsibilities. This team will operate the system during clinical labs, troubleshoot and resolve known issues, document novel issues that arise during system use, perform SW installation and smoke testing, and provide complex engineering test support for R&D applications. Applicants should have experience working with complex electromechanical systems but need not have a technical background in robotics. This is a phenomenal opportunity for someone with an interest in medical robotics to gain deep technical and industry knowledge, while providing a critical service to the OTTAVA program.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the team lead in implementing the framework and processes to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the systems.
  • Technical expert for setting up, operating, maintaining, and debugging the system in clinical labs.
  • Document issues that arise in clinical labs, and resolve by working across hardware, electrical, and software teams.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues that commonly arise across the R&D system fleet.
  • Work with software engineers to understand and modify existing code.
  • Work with mechanical or electrical engineers to upgrade hardware components.
  • Maintain the configuration and records of all systems used for development and verification.
  • Planning and conducting activities related to developing new processes, including researching current and emerging electro-mechanical devices.
  • Mechanisms and various types of motors, encoders, sensors, and drivetrain-related components such as gears, lead screws, splines, cams, linear guides, belts, and pulleys.
  • Mechanical analysis, including statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength of materials, and stress analysis;
  • Designing and documenting parts and assemblies using CAD and designing for manufacturability and standard manufacturing processes such as machining, and 3D printing
  • ISO and FDA-regulated environments.

Qualifications:

One of the following combinations of experience and education are required.

A.) a BS in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Software Engineering, or other equivalent degree) combined with 5+ years of industry experience OR

B.) a MS Engineering or other equivalent degree with 3+ years of industry experience.

  • Ability to lead, mentor, and delegate to other engineers and technicians.
  • Fundamental understanding across software, controls, robotics, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Depth in one or more of the above subject areas, with ability to quickly come up speed in new technical areas.
  • Experience partitioning and decomposing sophisticated engineering problems into solvable problems.
  • Understanding of engineering concepts such as system architecture, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Proven understanding of programming concepts and ability to modify existing code (C++, python, etc.).
  • Excellent self-starter with a can-do demeanor.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience with electromechanical or robotic systems is preferred.
  • The ability and willingness to manage up to 15% travel in the US.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $125,000 - $201,250 Bay Area.

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
  • Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
  • Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
  • Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
