We are searching for the best talent for a Senior ServiceNow Architect to be located in Raritan, NJ.
Role Purpose: Serve as the primary ServiceNow Platform Architect for a designated process domain (for example: HSRD, Source2Pay, LSD). You will own the design, delivery, sustainability and operational readiness of scalable, secure solutions on Johnson & Johnson's enterprise ServiceNow platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role in a large, highly governed environment where technical judgment, upgradeability, and solution quality are paramount.
Core Accountabilities:
Platform Architecture & Delivery
Own end-to-end platform architecture and configuration decisions to support process domains.
Translate business needs into scalable platform solutions that align with enterprise architectural standards and long-term platform strategy.
Prefer configuration-first approaches; justify any customizations with clear cost/benefit, upgrade impact and supportability analysis.
Produce architecture diagrams, design docs, and implementation acceptance criteria; participate in design reviews and sprint ceremonies as required.
Platform Engineering & Code Quality
Implement disciplined server-side logic using Business Rules and Script Includes with emphasis on reuse, encapsulation and testability.
Author and maintain performant, maintainable code and automated tests where applicable.
Establish and enforce coding/configuration patterns that protect upgradeability and minimize technical debt.
Security, Access & Governance
Design and maintain ACLs, role/group strategies and least-privilege access models suitable for a global enterprise environment.
Consider performance, audit readiness and separation-of-duties when designing access and data protection controls.
Work with security and compliance teams to ensure solutions meet regulatory and internal requirements.
Upgrade Readiness & Platform Sustainability
Make pragmatic decisions that prioritize platform sustainability: refactor or remove custom logic that conflicts with out-of-box capabilities and upgrade paths.
Participate in upgrade planning, testing and remediation efforts, identifying risky customizations early and driving mitigation.
Domain Expertise & Collaboration
Act as the subject matter expert for ServiceNow platform; support backlog refinement, complex incident resolution and architectural guidance to delivery teams.
Collaborate closely with domain leads and cross-functional stakeholders to align domain implementations with enterprise roadmaps, upgrade plans and GenAI initiatives.
Mentor and coach developers and integrators on enterprise best practices and standards.
Required Experience & Skills:
Minimum 7 years hands-on ServiceNow platform architecture design and implementation experience on large-scale, enterprise platforms (not delegated work).
Demonstrable experience designing and implementing Business Rules, Script Includes and ACLs in a governed environment.
Strong functional knowledge and practical experience in at least one ServiceNow process area (e.g., HSRD, Source2Pay, LSD).
Strong technical judgment with documented examples of decisions that balanced performance, security, maintainability and upgrade impact.
Excellent verbal and written communication; able to explain design tradeoffs clearly to both technical teams and business stakeholders.
Prepared to discuss specific real-world examples of technical decisions and implementations during interviews.
Strongly Preferred:
Two or more current ServiceNow certifications such as:
Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) — ITSM, CMDB, ITOM
Certified Application Developer (CAD)
Certified System Administrator (CSA)
Direct experience planning and executing major ServiceNow upgrades, including remediation of customization-related upgrade issues.
Competencies & Behaviors:
Technical leadership: makes and defends architecture choices; drives consistency across teams.
Problem solving: breaks down complex problems, anticipates downstream impacts.
Collaboration & influence: builds trust with stakeholders, negotiates tradeoffs, and drives consensus.
Attention to detail: produces high‑quality deliverables and enforces standards.
Continuous improvement mindset: proactively refactors and reduces technical debt.
Success Measures (what great looks like):
The ServiceNow platform is stable, secure, and consistently upgrade-ready with low defect and incident rates.
Custom logic is minimal, intentional and aligned with platform best practices.
Stakeholders express high confidence in the quality, maintainability and sustainability of delivered solutions.
Technical risks and poor patterns are identified and addressed during design and delivery, not discovered through incidents or failed upgrades.
Interview Expectations:
Be ready to present 2–3 concrete examples of ServiceNow solutions you designed: the business problem, your architecture, key tradeoffs, how you handled security/ACLs, and how you ensured upgradeability.
Expect scenario-based technical questions and design review discussion focused on configuration vs. customization, performance, and maintainability.
