Senior Robotics & Controls Engineer

Auris Health, a part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting a Senior Robotics & Controls Engineer, located in Santa Clara, California!

At J&J Robotics we're changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers' abilities and improve patients' diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. J&J Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. Join our collaborative, rapidly growing teams in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cincinnati, and Seattle. You'll collaborate on breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals' skills and improves patient outcomes.

The Senior Robotics & Controls Engineer will join our Robotics & Controls team. We are a group of highly motivated roboticists working on the algorithms that lie at the heart of the system. We are responsible for classic areas of robotics such as the kinematic workspace analysis, arm motion generation, admittance algorithms, dynamic response, etc. We are also developing how the robot platform interacts with the medical instruments, collaborating closely with the mechanical development of the flexible and rigid medical instruments. Furthermore, we work on the physician / robot interaction schemes and drive modes, helping make the system easy to drive all while optimizing performance.

We are seeking an individual that is at ease with taking on both software and hardware tasks. The individual should be able to quickly develop a systems level understanding that guides decisions moving forward. You should have hands-on experimental skills alongside an insatiable curiosity for understanding the inner workings of the entire system. Using a data-driven approach, you can make sense of complex interactions. Your commitment to high quality work will help keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Above all, we are looking for someone deeply motivated to dedicate their energy and skills towards improving patients' lives through the advancement of robotic technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and test robotic algorithms (kinematics, dynamics, controls, etc.)
  • Collaborate inter-disciplinarily with Mechanical Engineering, Instruments & Accessories, Clinical Engineering and Software Engineering teams to drive the clinical performance of the robot
  • Conduct in-depth design reviews, presenting your results with outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Guide junior robotic engineers on the team
