We are searching for the best talent for Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Leads and coordinates activities for one or more engineering programs within operations, supporting production and/or the development of new products for the Business Units. These programs may include Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Systems, Transfer Processes, Technology Development, Tools (Design, Fabrication, Assembly, Procurement, and Calibration), and Plant/Equipment Maintenance.

Manages and works on problems of diverse scope where data analysis requires evaluation of identifiable factors; selects methods and techniques for problem-solving. Leads and coordinates engineering through subordinate engineers and technicians to achieve production/NPI goals consistent with cost, high quality, profitability, and required delivery times. Interacts with the New Product Development process to generate processes and introduce plans for new products. Provides direction, adjusts testing, and recommends changes in processes and designs.

Directs, coordinates, and executes Project Management principles, methods, tools, and techniques for effective planning; schedules, organizes, controls, integrates, and completes projects within the required scope and timeframe, either by performing activities personally or through subordinates. Individually, must demonstrate creativity, foresight, and the ability to exercise judgment, anticipate and resolve problems, generate programs to meet objectives/requirements, provide organization/leadership in projects, and develop standards and guidelines for technical activities.

If CSS Position: This role will have responsibilities across ETHICON and Cardiovascular and Specialty Solutions (CSS) Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, including a range of multiple product platforms such as General Surgical Devices, Sutures, ENT, Infection Prevention, Electrophysiology, and Surgical and Non-Surgical Aesthetics.

You will be responsible for:

  • Under limited supervision and in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws/regulations, as well as Johnson & Johnson corporate procedures and guidelines, this position:
  • The supervision received is essentially administrative, with responsibilities defined in terms of the organization's objectives and general limits.
  • Has full technical and administrative responsibility to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate its activities.
  • Establishes operational goals and objectives to achieve the organization's strategies and targets.
  • Prepares project schedules and coordinates engineering activities to ensure specifications, as well as corporate goals and objectives, are met.
  • Plans and develops projects (engineering, process development, maintenance systems, operations transfer, cost improvement, etc.) involving unique and controversial situations or problems that have significant or major impact on organizational programs and Business Units. This includes exploring related areas, defining scopes, selecting problems to investigate, and developing concepts and solutions.
  • Maintains liaison with individuals and units within the organization, acting independently on technical matters and activities related to its area.
  • Implements systems and procedures to ensure machines and equipment are utilized effectively and meet specifications. Reviews equipment and machinery requirements based on production programs. Determines and monitors the implementation of capital requirements for improvements.
  • Resolves operational issues related to equipment, manufacturing, and maintenance to ensure minimum cost and prevent NPD delivery delays; identifies new equipment and processes as needed.
  • Reviews and approves process specifications and standard designs. Reviews and approves documentation changes.
  • Practices safety and quality policies and procedures and actively participates in them.
  • Responsible for monitoring the unit's financial metrics, e.g., CIP, Spending, Capital.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages a team of Engineers and Technicians.
  • Responsible for the complete direction and evaluation of the work team.
  • Leads the team in accordance with applicable policies and laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; monitoring development; recognizing and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving conflicts.
  • Responsible for communicating business-related issues or opportunities to the next management level.
  • Ensures subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety, and Environmental practices and that all necessary resources are available and in good condition.
  • Ensures personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other assigned tasks as needed.

Qualifications / Requirements:

Experience and Education

  • Completed university degree in Engineering (any specialty).
  • Master’s degree in sciences is preferred.
  • 6–8 years of experience and training in the Medical Industry.
  • 6–8 years of experience or training in a similar position.
  • Advanced level of English.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Certifications/Licenses, and Affiliations:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Knowledge of Quality System requirements such as ISO and QSR.
  • Must possess clear theoretical and practical ability in fundamental engineering techniques applicable to supervisory functions.
  • Demonstrate deep technical knowledge of equipment and facility maintenance systems, as well as calibration standards for equipment, tools, and documentation control systems in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in PC use and software related to the role.
  • Ability to manage projects, including scope, limits, and duration; knowledge of principles, methods, tools, and techniques of Project Management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Ability to identify improvement opportunities and implement world-class manufacturing practices such as JJPS, including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, among others.
  • Knowledge of financial concepts applied to manufacturing, including budgeting and cost control.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills.
