Senior Power Plant Engineer

We are helping our clients meet the challenges faced in countries and cities across the globe, providing innovative solutions from replacing conventional thermal power plants with renewable energy to developing demand side management strategies.

We are currently looking for a Senior Power Plant Engineer to be based on our Philippines office. You will project manage feasibility studies, FEED, detailed design, due diligence assignments, lenders and sponsor technical advisory services for large power plant infrastructure projects. You will see yourself working on a Mega project that's never been developed before and part of a growing business.

Responsibilities not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the technical planning and execution of Thermal Power Plant projects across all phases; Concept Development, FEED, and Detailed Design, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule, safety, quality, and risk management objectives.
  • Act as Engineering/Design Manager as required by the project, overseeing multi-disciplinary engineering teams and ensuring integration of design deliverables.
  • Guide junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices and knowledge management within the organization.
  • Develop, review, and enforce mechanical engineering standards, specifications, and procedures in line with international codes (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
  • Evaluate and coordinate with equipment vendors and EPC contractors, ensuring technical compliance and quality of mechanical packages.
  • Participating in Safety Studies including but not limited to HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA and QRA
  • Manage and coordinate design reviews, technical approvals, and operational input from internal and external stakeholders, including owners, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Review, develop, and approve technical standards, specifications, drawings, and engineering documentation to ensure consistency and quality across all project phases.
  • Support the selection, negotiation, and management of engineering and construction contractors, ensuring alignment with project technical requirements and execution strategy.
  • Coordinate inputs from technical, environmental, and social advisors, ensuring high-quality reporting and alignment with project objectives and lender requirements.
  • Deliver clear, concise, and informative reports to sponsors and lenders, highlighting key technical and commercial risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and review techno-economic assessments, technical reports, due diligence reports, and construction monitoring reports, ensuring technical robustness and financial viability.
  • Apply a risk-based approach to project evaluation, working closely with sponsors and lenders to identify, assess, and mitigate technical and commercial risks.
  • Ensure all stakeholders are fully informed of project risks and recommend actionable mitigation strategies, assigning responsibilities to the most appropriate parties.
  • Provide detailed recommended actions with the party best placed to manage the risk.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical engineering or relevant degree.
  • Previous experience for about 15 years as a Power Plant engineer with expertise in design and advisory.
  • CCGT, OCGT and Reciprocating Engine experience using gas and diesel fuels.
  • Strong technical engineering focus, experience in GT Pro or similar gas power performance modelling software would be beneficial.
  • Experience of specifying mechanical equipment and producing datasheets for various power plant equipment including but not limited to fuel tanks, pumps, valves, metering station, fuel gas compressors, gas conditioning, emissions monitoring, RO plant and air compressors.
  • Experience in e-fuels i.e. Hydrogen and methanol storage and delivery systems would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of Geothermal, Solar, Wind and BESS technologies would be ideal.
  • Major project experience and support to end to end gas transmission and power generation projects.
  • Understands project life cycle, feasibility studies, competitive bidding of large power plants, engineering and construction of large power plants, commissioning, and operations phase of the plant.
  • Strong power engineering background for thermal power plant projects and familiar with owners' engineer and/or technical advisory services, including feasibility and conceptual studies.
  • An understanding of district cooling would be beneficial although not essential.
  • Good project management capability and be prepared to undertake short visits to client and site offices.
  • Ability to apply a risk-based approach, often working with the design team, sponsor team and lenders technical teams to provide technical and commercial reviews of projects to identify key risks.
