Senior Geotechnical Engineer

As a Senior Geotechnical professional, you will be provided with the opportunity to support the organization with technical leadership, organizational skills and development of Geotechnical personnel in the business. To excel in this role, strategic thinking and communication skills to influence positive outcomes, effective leadership, development of client relationships and technical delivery are key success factors. This position will require you to work in the field and office as required.
Broader aspects of this position will require you to provide support in the coaching and mentoring of new and existing Jacob's personnel to promote knowledge sharing and technical excellence within the team. This position will also require you to coordinate and communicate with the junior staff on design and field activities that will include reviewing and providing timely feedback regarding field observations and any observed departures or deviations of construction works from the approved designs, specifications, and agreed method statements.
Experience in geotechnical assessment, analysis and design, and be effective in problem-solving and knowledge sharing with strong relevant experience in:
- Site investigations and testing methods including design and construction monitoring of pile foundation.
- Geohazard identification, assessment and recommendations.
- Provide feedback to Jacobs Site Engineers on any observed deviations from designs, specifications, or agreed Method Statements.
- Review construction observations documented using the Jacobs site-based reporting platform (JCast), including preparation of Field Observation Records.
- Review and verify piling contractors' and Project Management Consultant's construction and quality records.
- Review reports on post-construction pile integrity testing and assist in reviewing test results.
- Analyze and report piling progress, identifying potential systematic trends or issues in construction works.
- Participate in and contribute to site-based technical meetings.
- Design and analysis of Geotechnical solutions, including reclamations, ground improvement, embankments, slope stabilization, retaining walls, shallow and deep foundations, pavements, earthworks, among other Geotechnical matters.
- Geotechnical factual, baseline, interpretive and design reports.
- Provision of technical quality and innovation.
- Lead a team of junior and intermediate engineers on a range of design and design review projects.
- Proven report writing skills.
- Preparation of quotations, engagement of subcontractors, management and review of deliverables.
- Demonstrate strong business acumen and client relationship skills that positively influence outcomes.
- Have proven relevant effective project delivery experience.
- Demonstrate a broad Geotechnical competency.
- Completes tasks in accordance with plans; and
- Verifies that the recommended approach or presented solution is correct and seeks guidance when the situation is unclear.
- Establish positive client relationships. Is proactive and anticipates client requirements. Takes personal responsibility for client satisfaction. Meets long term client needs.
- Shows concern for clients' needs, their emphasis on what is important and/or urgent and takes appropriate steps to meet their expectations.
- Follows through – ensures that there is follow up on client enquires, request or complaints.
- Recognizes and acts on present issues.
- Perform seismic hazard analyses, including site-response studies, liquefaction evaluations, seismic slope stability evaluations, etc.
- Deals honestly and fairly with others, showing consideration and respect.
Here's what you'll need:
- Relevant engineering degrees (M. Tech/M. E/MS in Geotechnical & B.Tech/B.E. in Civil engineering).
- Familiarity with IS codes for pile design and construction.
- At least 10-12 years of Geotechnical/site experience, preferably in foundation/pile design and construction monitoring.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Sound experience in various areas of Geotechnical investigation, analysis and design.
- Sound understanding of relevant Geotechnical standards and design software within areas of expertise.
- Sound interpersonal and technical management skills.
- Positive track record in client management and development in consulting.
- Ability to build & maintain strong client & team relationships.
