About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Student Service & Digital Resource Librarian to join our team. In this role, you will leverage your professional skills to support the Ivy Tech Indianapolis Library by providing one-on-one research and technology assistance, facilitating library instruction, creating and maintaining accurate catalog records, and coordinating maintenance of the library's website. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of modeling library research processes, championing customer service experiences across multiple modalities, cataloging library resources, and a passion for delivering outstanding results in a dynamic environment. This position will also serve as a liaison between the library and several designated academic departments.

Major Responsibilities

The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

  • Use established Library protocols to provide timely responses to Ask a Librarian email inquiries and assist with monitoring the department's shared email inbox.
  • Facilitate one-on-one reference assistance virtually and in-person.
  • Assist all students with technology needs, including computer and internet literacy basics and troubleshooting questions related to students' learning management system, joining Zoom sessions, using Microsoft or Google applications, printing, etc.
  • Assist with processing ILL requests.
  • Original catalog materials in all formats including AACRII, RDA, and MARC codes to maintain relevant standards within the ILS system. Collaborate with library team to identify and correct inconsistent catalog records.
  • Coordinate maintenance of the library's website, including updates to LibGuides, upcoming events, and other content as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty and other library liaisons to develop, maintain, and weed print and digital collections that meet the curricular needs of students and faculty.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop a broad range of teaching and learning tools to meet curricular needs, including but not limited to web-based tutorials, instructional videos, and subject-specific research guides using LibGuides.
  • Assist team in facilitating library instruction and planning relevant programming within the Library, as needed.
  • Apply advanced problem-solving skills to prioritize exceptional customer service, troubleshoot, and resolve student questions and inquiries.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams—including faculty—utilizing transparent and empathetic communication to help elevate departmental services and contribute to team initiatives.
  • Assist departmental leadership with marketing and outreach, including conducting class visits, tabling events, and leading relevant workshops for students.
  • Maintain an understanding of library and pedagogical trends and apply relevant skills in support of student success.

Education & Experience

A MLS or MLIS degree is required. Additionally, we need candidates who can demonstrate the practical skills and experience necessary to excel in this role. A proven track record of providing strong customer service through reference and technology support, as well as cataloging experience will be prioritized.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in original and copy cataloging practices, with experience creating/maintaining accurate bibliographic records. Proficiency in best practices for reference interviews, demonstrated live one-on-one and through written email. Proficiency with computer and web applications on various devices, including Windows PCs, MacBooks, and Google Chromebooks. Proficiency with Microsoft and Google Suites, Zoom, and email and chat applications.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, identify and prioritize patterns, and provide data-driven solutions.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly to diverse audiences, provide non-judgmental feedback, and build positive rapport with others.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically, make decisions independently, and solve complex problems in a timely manner.

  • Teamwork: Proven experience in collaborating effectively with diverse teams to achieve common goals.

  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and track progress in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Experience in a public-facing library role, customer service, or similar environments.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with SirsiDynix's LMS, WorkFlows, and the Springshare LibApps suite.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with using WorldCat to process ILL requests.
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude of approachability and adaptability.
