Mechanical Engineer
Hobart Food Machines is part of the ITW Food Equipment Group. We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to build, validate, troubleshoot and design new parts and systems for commercial mixers and slicers, full-time, in our Troy, Ohio Technology Center. This position will report to the Engineering Manager and will be a part of the new product development team.
Responsibilities:
- Build, repair, test and modify commercial mixer and slicer prototypes at our development lab and local field test sites including complex mechanical and electrical assembly and troubleshooting.
- Design and facilitate engineering validation tests, fixtures and methodologies to assess new commercial food equipment designs.
- Champion ground-up design solutions for new product development.
- Complete teardown, design assessment and report out of competitive equipment.
- Review and support designer prints/models for proper materials, geometry, dimensioning, tolerancing, callouts, BOM's and accuracy.
- Make critical design decisions with engineering tools such as FEA, FMEA, tolerance stack ups, decision matrix, brainstorming, etc.
- Communicate with quality, manufacturing, marketing, sourcing and suppliers to refine design requirements as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors (4-yr.) degree in mechanical engineering or similar.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems.
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical design and a strong willingness to learn.
- 1+ years of experience in SolidWorks (or comparable CAD systems) or strong willingness to learn.
- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, molding, fabrication, etc.
- Foundational print comprehension and creation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good learning agility and willingness to learn new skills.
- Must be task-oriented, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good verbal, written & interpersonal communication skills.
- Intermediate PC skills, including the use of Microsoft Office and general computer system proficiency.
Additional Information:
- You will work in a team-oriented office and laboratory environment.
- PPE required: Steel toe shoes and eye protection in manufacturing setting.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, or stoop and use hands, arms and walk frequently. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
