Support product development initiatives and maintain existing products to achieve business unit goals and objectives.
Develop concept designs and 3D CAD models, create manufacturing drawings, prepare and manage bills of materials, and release documentation through ITW's Stage Gate and engineering change processes.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams driving product design and quality related continuous improvement projects.
Perform the design, testing, operation and/or evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices and systems.
Work with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues.
Provide direct technical support to the production team as required to meet production goals.
Partner with manufacturing groups and outside vendors to develop components that meet or exceed material, labor, and warranty cost metrics.
Conduct engineering studies through data acquisition and analyze results.
Education and experience:
BS in Mechanical Engineering and minimum 5 years of applicable experience.
Product design and development experience.
Proficiency in creating mechanical designs and drawings utilizing 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
Experience with additional CAD/PDM software such as Mechanical Desktop or Catia, and knowledge of FEA and/or CFD tools preferred.
Effective oral and written communications, effective presentation skills, and proven ability to work well at all levels in the organization, including production.
Experience in machine design and sheet metal fabrication.
General understanding of electrical components and plastics preferred.
General understanding of thermodynamic and fluid dynamic fundamentals.
Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve engineering, quality, and warranty issues using 8D, FRACAS, or similar processes.
MS Office application proficiency.
Physical requirements/working conditions:
Limited travel (less than 10%) to domestic locations such as manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and customer facilities.
Plant floor, office, and lab environment.
Onsite at Charlotte plant.
Must be able to bend, stoop, lift 50 pounds, reach and twist to complete all job tasks.
Must be able to wear all required PPE (i.e., safety glasses, steel/composite toe safety shoes).
