Assistant Vice-President Of Nursing

The Assistant Vice-President of Nursing plans, integrates, contracts and evaluates human, material and fiscal resources required to provide patient care in multiple settings. Defines and supports professional practice. Provides leadership in establishing standards, goals and direction for nursing services/programs. Facilitates the development of leadership and management expertise. Has full access to patient health information.

Job Specific Standards

  1. Establishes effective and efficient staffing systems that support daily operations and meet the department/program standards.
  2. Provides knowledge of Iredell Health System and available resources.
  3. Collaborates with organizational leaders to develop/maintain an environment that supports learning, professional development and maintains professional practice structure.
  4. Utilizes and ensures leadership staff uses personnel policies and procedures fairly and consistently.
  5. Participates in the development and implementation of an on-going nurse recruitment and retention plan.
  6. Collaborates with Administration and Medical Staff to ensure the delivery of patient care services is appropriate to the patient population's age and acuity and the department/program specialty.
  7. Provides leadership and collaborates with nurse leaders, Administration, Medical Staff and other department leaders to identify, develop and accomplish department and/or program goals/objectives.
  8. Directs department leadership in evaluating the quality of patient care delivery system.
  9. Monitors quality indicator for assigned programs/services and assures appropriate action plans and re-evaluation.
  10. Provides leadership in organizational quality improvement initiatives.
  11. Ensures department/program compliance with departmental, program, Joint Commission standards, state/federal regulation and community/national standards.
  12. Maintains and shares knowledge of clinical/managerial practice, issues, trends and technology.
  13. Participates in and provides leadership for meetings, task forces and committees; completes assignments per/ahead of schedule.
  14. Directs and leads staff to focus on and achieve patient satisfaction.

  16. Provides primary leadership for hiring, orientation and development of department directors and designated others.

  20. Develops volume and patient day forecasting and department distribution with departmental leadership.

  23. Implements expense/cost controls as indicated.
  24. Provides leadership for and personally demonstrates Iredell Health System values of integrity, outstanding services, innovative climate, caring spirit and financial viability.
  25. Develops, communicates, implements and reports progress on department plan that coordinates with Iredell Health System's Strategic Plan.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Baccalaureate degree and Master's degree required (one must be in nursing). National certification preferred.
  • At least 5 years nursing management experience.
  • Ability to apply sound principles of management and leadership to achieve hospital and nursing goals.
  • Ability to apply fiscal process to staffing strategies.
  • Must possess full range of body motion to pass a basic FIT test to include bending, stooping, standing and sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
