Iowa State University is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team dedicated to providing tier 2/3 support and assisting in the monitoring, maintenance, and deployment of enterprise-grade network services to make the ISU community an exceptional place to work, teach, research, and learn. The Network Engineer II position is a highly technical role responsible for upkeep and operation of the ISU data network.
This position is responsible for troubleshooting and configuration of routing, switching, security, and wireless network equipment of moderate complexity. Other duties include documentation of network services, deployment and use of network monitoring solutions, dashboarding performance metrics, and proactive identification of capacity and performance issues. The ability to work a flexible off-hours schedule for planned and unplanned maintenance is required. This position may assist with network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. They will interact with campus wide projects and initiatives, working closely with other IT staff and vendors to identify and implement appropriate network solutions to the campus environment, as well as provide third tier support to campus IT customers.
Successful applicants must be detail oriented, self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and can troubleshoot while learning new skills, tools, and technologies. They also possess strong time management, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems.
A Network Engineer II is an intermediate career level position requiring an ability to demonstrate a solid knowledge of network related technology. They will possess a broad working knowledge that can be demonstrated by experience in a professional or enterprise capacity and able to exercise judgement to determine the appropriate actions to resolve problems. Information Technology Services (ITS) provides core computing, network services, enterprise systems, and information security resources to the students, faculty, and staff of Iowa State. ITS partners with IT professionals from around campus to provide more specialized IT resources to ISU's academic and business units.
