Primary duties and responsibilities include maintaining a positive attitude, generating a friendly atmosphere, providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, planning and adjusting work schedules, supervising and coordinating activities, ensuring proper customer service, evaluating employee performance, training and enforcing safety procedures, compiling and understanding managerial data, ordering and verifying merchandise, training workers, ensuring compliance with policies, determining ad and promotional displays, explaining store services, understanding store accounting, maintaining personal hygiene, adhering to company policies, and reporting to work on time.
Secondary duties and responsibilities include determining motivational needs, staying current with market trends, providing continuous education, selling merchandise, handling cash registers, recommending cost reduction programs, reviewing personnel records, recommending merchandise allocation, assisting in other areas, and performing other job-related duties.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include solving practical problems, doing arithmetic calculations, interviewing, guiding people, following technical manuals, and having increased contact with people. Education and experience requirements include high school or equivalent and two or more years of similar or related work experience.
Supervisory responsibilities include instructing, assigning work, reviewing work, planning the work of others, maintaining standards, allocating personnel, and coordinating the activities of others. The role also involves selecting new employees, acting on employee problems, and recommending employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge, and salary adjustments.
Physical requirements include the ability to perform medium work, visual requirements, and various physical activities. The position is exposed to dust, noise, temperature extremes, equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and exposure to chemicals and solvents. This is a fast-paced work environment.
Equipment used includes pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, knives, trash compactor, cardboard baler, forklift, computer, calculator, telephone, FAX machine, two wheeler, register computer, ordering machine, use of limited power equipment, delivery vehicle, Western Union, Hunting/Fishing license computer, and money order machine. The role has financial responsibility and daily contact with customers, employees, suppliers/vendors, and the general public. Occasional contact with federal or state regulatory agencies regarding inspections. The role has access to confidential information.
