Swahili Interpreter For Refugee Community Services

Des Moines, IA, USA | Immigrant and Refugee Community Services | Occasional LSI seeks part-time occasional Swahili interpreter for refugee community services in the Des Moines area. Duties include providing direct interpretation and translation services between users of different languages. Interpret conversations in-person and translate documents and forms. Communicate effectively with clients, community partners, volunteers, and staff to ensure high and efficient quality of service to clients. Uphold interpretation ethics and guidelines. Length of position assignment may depend on the changing language needs of the program. Position will include frequent on-call shifts with occasional shifts scheduled on a regular basis, hours and shifts will vary.

Qualifications: Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma/equivalent and 1 year of experience interpreting in the refugee community. Must have linguistic skills to meet the needs of populations served. Qualified applicants will be fluent in English and Swahili. This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.
