Hawkeye Community College is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Human Resource Services to join our collaborative and people-centered Human Resources team. Specifically, as the Associate Director, you will be managing comprehensive compensation, retirement, and benefits programs, including leading biannual open enrollments and insurance education. You will serve as a vital institutional guide, conducting orientations and managing sensitive areas such as FMLA, ADA accommodations, and employee relations. Additionally, you will work closely with the Executive Director and help influence campus culture through policy development, collective bargaining, and representation on key leadership committees. Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development, or related field and four years of progressive leadership experience in human resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling eight (8) years. Knowledge of human resources management practices and procedures. Knowledge of federal and state statues as it relates to employment law. Knowledge of budget administration and fiscal management. Knowledge of applicable collective bargaining statutes and processes. Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public. Demonstrated ability in problem solving and conflict resolution. Ability to establish and maintain policies and practices.
Specialized training in benefits administration and employee relations. Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations. SHRM Certification(s). Experience in higher education.
Anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with occasional evening or weekend hours due to business need. Work is performed either in or a combination of an office setting and/or classroom setting using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
Full-time, exempt position with a comprehensive or competitive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance, a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expenses; holiday, personal, sick, and vacation leave; tuition reimbursement/tuition remission; and a choice of retirement programs—IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution). Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's education and experience. The salary range for this position begins at $65,200.
