Field Service Technician II / III

The Field Service Technician II / III is a skilled electrical testing professional responsible for performing acceptance and maintenance testing of electrical power equipment in the field. This role supports the safe execution of projects, accurate data collection, and high-quality reporting while working in accordance with NETA, NFPA 70E, and other applicable industry standards. Depending on experience and certification level, this technician may also assist with project coordination, mentor junior team members, and serve in a lead capacity on select assignments.

Supervisory / Leadership Responsibilities

• May lead small field teams or serve as lead technician on assigned projects, depending on experience and certification level
• Provide guidance and technical support to junior technicians in the field
• Assist with coordinating daily work activities, schedules, and jobsite safety practices
• Support review of test data and documentation prior to final report submission

Duties and Responsibilities

Acceptance & Maintenance Electrical Testing

• Perform acceptance and maintenance electrical testing in accordance with NETA, NFPA 70E, and applicable industry standards
• Verify equipment is properly de-energized and locked out/tagged out prior to testing
• Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate electrical power distribution equipment
• Identify deficiencies or abnormal conditions and communicate findings to supervisors or clients
• Ensure all testing procedures are completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with project requirements

Field Operations

• Set up, operate, and remove test equipment at job sites
• Maintain tools and test equipment in proper working condition, including calibration awareness and storage
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Verify equipment and materials are ready prior to mobilization

Project Support / Team Coordination

• Support execution of testing projects from mobilization through completion
• Assist with field planning, task execution, and schedule adherence
• Follow all safety programs, job hazard analyses, and site-specific requirements
• Communicate project progress, field issues, and test findings to supervisors, team members, and clients as appropriate

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare accurate and detailed test reports
• Document field results, deficiencies, and corrective action recommendations
• Ensure all required documentation is completed and submitted on schedule
• Assist with reviewing data for completeness and accuracy

Electrical Measurements & Troubleshooting

• Perform electrical measurements and analyze results to identify issues, deficiencies, or potential failures
• Support troubleshooting and evaluation of electrical systems and equipment
• Apply sound technical judgment based on field conditions, testing standards, and equipment performance
• Perform additional duties as needed to support operational and business objectives

Required Attributes & Abilities

• Ability to pass background check, MVR check, and pre-employment drug screening
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Strong knowledge of electrical theory and power distribution systems
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with clients and team members
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and reporting software
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills

Experience & Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Associate's degree from an accredited technical college or trade school preferred
• NETA Level II or Level III certification preferred, or equivalent hands-on electrical testing experience
• 3–6+ years of relevant electrical testing experience, depending on certification level and overall background
• OSHA 30-Hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED, and Power DB training preferred

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to travel overnight up to 50% of the time
• Willingness to work occasional overtime as needed
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to walk, stand, climb, push, pull, sit, and work in confined spaces
• Potential exposure to dirt, heat, fumes, smoke, water, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and dust
