As a member of our operations team, the Platform Engineer – Support (Linux and Mac) will help address the operational needs of a mixed on-premises and cloud environment.
This role requires a strong background in Linux system administration and operations, excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, and a passion for automation and continuous learning.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational support and work directly with end users to understand requirements and resolve trouble tickets
- Drive consistent, standardised solutions across IB for hardware, software, configurations, and processes
- Implement tools and processes for efficient operational management, including change management, monitoring, and alerting
- Provide after-hours or weekend support when necessary for high-risk or planned data centre maintenance and upgrades
- Contribute to issue resolution through automation
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver timely, proactive solutions
- Communicate complex technical concepts to individuals with varying levels of technical expertise
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in Linux system administration or operations
- Strong understanding of core Linux concepts and technologies (e.g., LVM, systemd, memory/CPU/network/disk management, Bash scripting)
- Experience with storage protocols and technologies such as NFS, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and systematically resolve issues
- Willingness to take on tasks outside of formal training and learn new technologies
- Solid understanding of host and network security concepts
- Familiarity with standard services and protocols (DNS, DHCP, Active Directory/LDAP, SSH, SNMP)
- Understanding of modern monitoring tools and concepts (e.g., Prometheus, New Relic, Datadog)
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with AWS or another cloud provider
- Programming experience (e.g., Python)
- Experience with DevOps tools
