As an Automation Engineer (Onsite) in the Global Equipment Engineering Group, the candidate will support the design, development, and improvement of automated manufacturing equipment used in high-volume production of wearable medical devices. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will contribute to projects involving assembly automation, packaging equipment, continuous improvement, and new product introduction. The candidate will also collaborate with internal customers and external vendors to specify, procure, and install new manufacturing lines and equipment in accordance with business needs. The candidate will work in a collaborative team environment with manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, controls, metrology, quality, and component supplier engineering. Responsibilities include working with cross-functional teams and/or strategic partners and providing technical guidance to support project execution. This role is ideal for a highly motivated early-career engineer with strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on problem-solving ability, and interest in automated systems and machine design.

The successful candidate will primarily focus on the design, development, specification, and implementation of automated equipment for assembly and packaging processes. In addition, continuous improvement efforts, obsolescence programs, technology transfers, and new product development may also be exercised in support of business objectives. Important job qualifications include:

  • Assist in the mechanical design of automated equipment and fixtures using CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Support machine development activities including prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Participate in equipment builds, debugging, and optimization alongside senior engineers and equipment suppliers.
  • Provide engineering support to current manufacturing operations, helping diagnose and resolve mechanical or automation-related issues.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Participate in equipment acceptance activities (e.g., FAT, SAT) and validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) with appropriate mentorship.
  • Work collaboratively with manufacturing, quality, controls engineering, suppliers, and other technical groups.
  • Help gather user requirements and translate them into clear engineering tasks with guidance from senior staff.
  • Contribute to engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, change orders, and test reports.
  • Learn and apply relevant safety, quality, and regulatory standards used in automated equipment and medical device manufacturing.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
  • 0–2 years of hands-on experience with automated machinery, robotics, machine design, or related internships/co-ops.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems such as pneumatics, linkages, actuators, and motion control.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred).

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Previous co-op or internship experience in automation, medical devices, robotics, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility and ability to function in a fast-paced, growth industry and work environment.
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to effectively communicate both internally and externally, as well as to upper management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in common computer tools such as word processing, spreadsheet, and web-based applications.
  • Experience with statistical tools such as Minitab or JMP is a plus but not required.
  • Understanding of machine safety concepts (CE, UL, NFPA-70E/79) is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with data analysis and data driven decision making is a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • The successful candidate must be able to travel domestically and internationally as business needs demand. Travel is estimated at upwards of 30%.
  • The successful candidate will perform other duties as required.

Compensation & Benefits: For U.S.-based positions only, the annual base salary range for this role is $85,400.00 - $128,075.00. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation.
