Remote Api Engineer (Staff-Level)
A large financial organization is seeking a remote API Engineer (Staff-Level) for a contract opportunity through the end of the year (with a high likelihood for extensions). These candidates can sit remote, but need to be able to work EST. Responsibilities include:
- Design and develop scalable APIs to support real-time payment processing, including integration with FedNow and other high-volume financial platforms.
- Build and maintain distributed systems with a focus on concurrency, memory management, and performance tuning in Java.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high availability and reliability of services, including failover strategies and service degradation handling.
- Implement messaging and eventing solutions using technologies like MQ and Kafka to support asynchronous and synchronous transaction flows.
- Monitor and optimize system performance through observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and Splunk.
- Support transaction scaling efforts.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and queuing technologies to handle gaming traffic from major providers.
- Participate in incident management processes including root cause analysis and retrospectives.
- Contribute to infrastructure automation using Terraform (or similar IaC tools), CI/CD pipelines, and release validation tooling.
- Work on transitioning from on-prem payment rails to scalable cloud-based solutions, ensuring readiness for future traffic surges.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to anticipate and build ahead of traffic growth, ensuring system resilience and scalability.
