Where is the work: This position has been designated as a hybrid work schedule with work performed onsite three days each week in Montreal.
Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient HVAC Engineering Associate to support the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of AI-driven HVAC control systems in commercial buildings. This role offers hands-on experience at the intersection of building automation, HVAC diagnostics, and cutting-edge AI technologies. The successful candidate will also contribute to the enhancement of internal tools and play a key role in maintaining and improving process documentation.
The ideal candidate is passionate about engineering sustainable building systems, has strong foundational technical skills, and is eager to learn and grow in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
What you will do:
- Monitor and troubleshoot deployed HVAC control systems to ensure continuous and optimal operation across client sites.
- Assist in commissioning, testing, and validating building automation systems with AI-enhanced control logic.
- Support issue diagnosis at the mechanical, electrical, and software levels — including control logic, sensors, actuators, and communication protocols.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and maintain internal scripts, dashboards, or tools that enhance team efficiency (Python preferred).
- Assist with the creation, maintenance, and organization of technical documentation, including system reports, SOPs, commissioning checklists, and deployment logs.
- Contribute to the tracking and continuous improvement of internal processes, preventative maintenance routines, and troubleshooting workflows.
- Use service management platforms to log, track, and resolve incidents, changes, and service requests.
- Interpret HVAC control diagrams, trend logs, and sequence documentation to identify anomalies or suboptimal system behavior.
- Provide timely communication with internal stakeholders and support teams to coordinate site interventions and system updates.
- Learn and apply industry best practices in HVAC control strategies and building performance optimization.
What you will bring:
- 1–2 years of hands-on experience or co-op/internship in HVAC systems, BAS, building operations, or technical support roles.
- Exposure to HVAC control systems and their operation, troubleshooting, or commissioning.
- Basic knowledge of building management protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
- Familiarity with HVAC control sequences and mechanical/electrical diagrams.
- Experience with scripting or programming (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or similar) is a plus.
- Comfort working with cloud platforms, remote diagnostic tools, and digital ticketing systems.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals and communication layers is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail with a methodical and organized approach to tasks.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to document procedures accurately and concisely.
- Eagerness to learn and take initiative on both technical and administrative tasks.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
Language requirements:
- French-English bilingualism is required.
- In addition to fluency in French, successful candidates must have full professional proficiency in English in order to support and collaborate with English-speaking clients, colleagues, and/or various stakeholders.
Compensation: Base pay range: $105,000 - $139,000. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on Canadian national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
