NiSource is currently seeking Summer Engineering Interns at our IN locations. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. These positions will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the Engineering field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.
This is a 12-week summer internship program with tentative dates from May 11, 2026 to August 7, 2026, for students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in fall 2026. The role is based in Valparaiso, IN. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.
Opportunities are available in the following disciplines:
Current student of an accredited college/university pursuing a four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Education or Technology. Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study. Ability to work 40 hrs/week during the summer. Proficiency with PC applications and prefer strong skills with MS Excel & Access. Proven communication skills. Good written and oral communication skills. Good planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to perform duties effectively at all times. GPA 3.0 and above. Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship. Must have a valid driver's license.
This internship is designed to provide hands-on, practical experience through meaningful project work. Candidates should be prepared to engage fully in a professional environment focused on skill development and real-world application—not simply seeking a "fun" summer opportunity.
