Process Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Process Engineer to support and improve operations within our CNC manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing manufacturing processes that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure high product quality. This role requires expertise in lean manufacturing, six sigma methodologies, and a basic understanding of CNC machining environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plant Layout and Workflow Design: Develop and update facility layout plans to optimize material flow, equipment placement, and workplace ergonomics.
  • Process Mapping and Documentation: Create and maintain detailed process maps, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CNC operations and related processes.
  • Cycle Time and Takt Time Analysis: Perform detailed time studies to identify bottlenecks, reduce cycle times, and ensure alignment with customer demand using takt time analysis.
  • Lean Manufacturing Implementation: Identify and eliminate waste (muda) in all manufacturing processes using lean principles such as 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping (VSM), SMED, and Kanban systems.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement projects focused on quality, delivery, safety, and cost reduction.
  • Six Sigma Projects: Apply Six Sigma tools and methodologies (DMAIC, root cause analysis, statistical process control) to improve process capability and reduce variability.
  • CNC Process Optimization: Collaborate with CNC programmers and machinists to refine machining processes, tooling selection, setup times, and fixture design for optimal efficiency and quality.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze production data, and prepare reports for management to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and technical support to operators and production staff on new processes, equipment, or improvement initiatives.
  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
    • 3+ years of experience in a CNC manufacturing environment, preferably in a process or industrial engineering role.
    • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma (Green Belt certification is a plus).
    • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) for layout and fixture design.
    • Experience with process mapping tools and ERP/MES systems.
    • Solid understanding of machining principles, tooling, and CNC programming fundamentals.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
    • Preferred Skills:

      • Experience with time and motion studies.
      • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality standards.
      • Project management experience (PMP certification is a plus).
      • Data analysis skills using Excel, Minitab, or similar software.
