Construction Project Engineer/ Assistant Construction Manager

We are seeking a dedicated Construction Project Engineer to join our team. This role involves supporting the Lead Construction Manager in overseeing the coordination between Inspector Resident Project Representatives, our team, and Project Managers. The position includes training and supervising inspection staff to ensure effective project time management, cost management, documentation, communication, risk management, and quality assurance.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage both people and projects effectively.
  • Administer budgets, schedules, and project timelines while overseeing team dynamics.
  • Visit project sites to monitor progress, attend meetings, and occasionally fill in for RPRs, which may require overnight travel.
  • Guide and oversee construction inspectors, assisting with job site inspections as needed.
  • Facilitate and conduct regular construction meetings.
  • Coordinate with contractors to schedule inspection activities and resolve design and field issues.
  • Assist in project management focusing on technical and cost efforts to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Validate products and materials ordered for projects to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local construction regulations and safety standards.

Essential Skills:

  • B.S. or Technology Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Professional experience in water, wastewater, and sewer projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plan sets, project drawings, and specifications.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel for preparing professional documents.
  • Ability to analyze project costs, understanding of bidding, estimating, and project risk assessment.
  • Experience with Procore and civil construction project management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task and manage projects with tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with federally-funded infrastructure is advantageous.
  • Previous construction inspection experience.
  • Ability to run professional meetings.
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.

Work Environment:

The position is based out of the Indy North office and involves traveling to job sites across the State of Indiana, including some overnight stays but only occasional. Candidates must have reliable transportation, and mileage will be reimbursed at the federal rate. The role operates on standard construction hours (7 AM - 4 PM) with some overtime. The work environment is dynamic, with a strong focus on collaboration and high performance. The team consists of 26-30 RPRs, managed by an experienced team leader. This is a contract-to-hire position lasting 9 months, offering a stable and long-term career opportunity in the field of water and wastewater engineering.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $41.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
