Operations Unit Paralegal Position

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office Child Support Division works to encourage non-custodial parents to take financial responsibility for the benefit of their children. A wide range of services are available for families, including paternity establishment, locating non-custodial parents, and modification and enforcement of child support orders. The Prosecutor's Office does not represent either party in a child support case or favor one side over the other. Our goal is to seek a just and fair outcome. The Operations Paralegal will aid the custodial and non-custodial parents in answering questions and concerns about their case reflective of the office having a fair and equitable system. The Prosecutor's Office seeks employees who are dedicated to public service, public safety, and fairness and justice for all who come into contact with the child support system.

Position Responsibilities:

• Maintain a highly professional attitude and appearance. Must be a positive team player and work well with others including other paralegals, Deputy Prosecutors, administration, and the public.
• Become proficient in using and maintaining information in the statewide child support enforcement tracking system.
• Answer calls from our multi-line telephone system for the public who have questions regarding all aspects of child support, and when appropriate, forward those phone calls to other staff.
• Electronically file all pleadings for child support cases daily.
• Complete all required tasks related to service of process.
• Respond to emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
• Process all incoming mail and faxes and outgoing mail for the entire Marion County Prosecutor's Office. This includes mail sent via intra-office as well as inter-office mail.
• Process all requests for previously filed court documents.
• Staff and manage the Front Desk of the Child Support Division which includes brief face-to-face contact with the public when answering questions, receiving documents and providing documents.
• Work reports as needed.
• Responsible for conducting locate, reviewing results and determining if address in ISETS should be updated, removed and sent to assigned paralegal.
• Gather and maintain contacts with service agencies and private industries for referrals and commitments to train and provide services for participants in the Parents that Work Program. Participate in all program events. Be available to attend some court sessions and on-site job referral locations.
• Assist parents in overcoming barriers to employment which may include referring these individuals to other agencies or industries so that the individuals can support their children.
• Maintain a spreadsheet of daily case activities.
• Participate in the planning and review of the Unit's goals as needed. Contribute to the effective and efficient daily operations of the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, Child Support Division through increased and ongoing knowledge of procedures.
• Ensure that all work is completed in strict compliance with all applicable federal and state regulatory rules, laws, and guidelines, including IRS Publication 1075.
• Abide by all policies and procedures set forth in the Marion County Prosecutor Office's Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.
• Be punctual and adhere to attendance policies.
• Be enthusiastic about learning new skills and procedures.
• Additional duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, on-going training on unit tasks and responsibilities and re-training when appropriate.

Qualifications:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must work well with the public and maintain a proper public image.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
• Must manage time well, work efficiently and set appropriate priorities on work to be undertaken. Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and situational pressures. Must have organizational skills and have initiative to foresee the daily needs of the section.
• Ability to work independently. Must be dependable and responsible. Excellent attendance record.
• College degree preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated leadership ability in present and past positions; demonstrated ability to maintain sound and effective relationships with peers.
• Prior experience in Child Support, a plus.
• Applicant must be a Marion County Resident at time of hire or willing to relocate to Marion County within 6 months of accepting the position.
