Operations Manager

Serves as a temporary Operations Manager in an ATC-12 level en route facility, responsible for planning and directing the operations in the facility; or planning and directing multiple support activities for the facility such as training, quality assurance, traffic management, airspace and procedures, plans and programs, and other facility program areas. Responsibilities include:

  • Directing a highly technical workforce that provides either air traffic control services and/or tactical and strategic support.
  • Providing training, coaching and guidance to subordinates and facilitating team building throughout areas of responsibility.
  • Integrating support resources with operational needs to maintain effective air traffic control service.
  • Using measures of organizational performance to review work processes to assure results meet the agency’s mission and the customer’s needs.
  • Assigning and reviewing work, planning work, setting priorities and schedules, approving leave, and preparing schedules for completion of work.
  • Making decisions on work problems presented by subordinates, hearing and resolving group grievances and serious employee complaints, and effecting disciplinary actions.
  • Dealing with labor representatives concerning workforce issues.
  • Adjusting staffing levels and work procedures to accommodate resource decisions made at higher levels.
  • Providing input to and contributing to the accomplishment of facility goals and objectives.

The Operations Manager reports to the Air Traffic Manager. Performance is evaluated upon the effectiveness with which assigned program objectives are achieved.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

Specialized Experience: Must have held an FAA 2152 FV-J/FG-14 or above regional or headquarters positions for at least 1 year (52 weeks); OR Must have held an MSS-2 or above position for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an Air Traffic Services (ATS) facility.

Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

We may use this vacancy to fill other similar vacant positions. Position may be subject to a background investigation. A one-year probationary period may be required. The person selected for this position may be required to file a financial disclosure statement within 30 days of entry on duty. FAA policy limits certain outside employment and financial investments in aviation-related companies.

This position is covered by the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program. Any applicant tentatively selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment or pre-appointment drug screening.
