Staff Automation Controls Engineer

Participate in the development and refinement of controls standards including Electrical Hardware (EPLAN), PLC Software (Rockwell/Siemens), HMI Software (Ignition/FT), Safety, Equipment and specifications. Provide feedback and gaps from each project to ensure smooth run for future projects. Assist in projects during all phases from the Request for Quote (RFQ) to Start of Production (SOP), specify the requirements and standards that must be followed for the projects. Collaborate with vendors during the design phase to ensure compliance with control standards and architectures, and verify the automated solution\'s feasibility across mechanical, network, safety, and ergonomic disciplines. Monitor vendor performance against timelines and quality expectations. On the Acceptance Test phases (FAT/SAT) a key role to assess the project installation and integration meet the expectations from the RFQ and Design phase ensuring the project readiness before being hand off to Operations and Start of Production (SOP) takes place and not limited to problem solving and guidance to an unexpected issue during the installation/commissioning phases. Improve the production lines, reduce cycle time, downtime, and improve quality. Troubleshoot, improve, and add features to PLCs using Ladder Logic and/or Structured. Maintain, modify, and properly version control equipment programs, configuration files, and documentation as changes are implemented. Implement and make modifications to MES logic for production and performance management in the PLCs and HMIs. Ensure implementation and development of Automated Systems are following Safety Standards ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA and Electrical Standard NFPA79, NEC, UL508A. International travel required 20% of the time.

Required Qualifications: Masters degree or foreign equivalent in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a closely related field and 2 years [or a Bachelors degree or foreign equivalent as stated above and 5 years] of experience in any occupation of controls engineer, automation engineer, or related. Experience must include programming Allen Bradley, Siemens and/or Beckhoff PLCs; creating or modifying HMI projects for automated systems in manufacturing industry using FactoryTalk, WinCC, and/or Ignition; troubleshooting common fieldbus networks Ethernet IP, Profinet and/or Ethercat; using Industrial electrical standards NFPA79, NEC, and UL508A; developing or modifying electrical schematics using EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical; and working with high volume manufacturing equipment focusing Body in White and Stamping. Salary Range: $126,000-$168,000/yr.
