To facilitate and operate single-cylinder test systems. This is an engineering role focused on research and development projects and at this level of seniority representing a shift from learning and assisting to fully contributing in assignments that are broader, more complex, and challenging in nature. The key role of this research position in the engineering community is to move from learning and assisting others to fully contributing. At this level, engineers begin partnering with and providing technical guidance within and between units and other teams. Ability to gather relevant information, compare and contrast data, identify relationships, and predict and manage failures is critical. Challenges include challenging the status quo and championing new initiatives, collaborating with team members and other teams, and keeping abreast of advancing technology. Decisions may affect the work group or project team, suppliers, multiple units, and both internal and external customers, and these decisions have significant impact on warranty, total cost of non-quality, customer perception, costs, sales, leveraging of technology, and informing the corporate technology strategy.
+ Orchestrate daily workflow through single cylinder test cell/cell. + Facilitate problem solving sessions at the appropriate level with all appropriate personnel involved. + Ensure utilization targets met daily. + Ensure problem resolution in a timely manner by driving problem resolution. + Ensure data quality on a daily basis through analyzing data quality check points and periodic checks of ongoing data acquisition. + Handle planning of the next line of sight testing by setting up project contracts, including cost and time estimates, procuring appropriate hardware and testing systems and instrumentation. + Perform needs analysis and initiate ideas. + Evaluate new products, processes, or systems. + Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units. + Contribute to the design of new products and processes. + Collaborate with and support other technologists and engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers and suppliers. + Keep up to date on modern technologies.
+ Projects typically range from two months to three years. + Individuals may have multiple assignments which may require the engineer to review the work of technicians or other support personnel, provide technical advice to individuals at various levels in the organization and work with another unit or team. + Assignments will become more complex and require the engineer to assume a significant role, either as an individual contributor or as part of a project team, with increasing emphasis on analyzing, identifying, and applying appropriate technologies to solve problems and make recommendations.
Undergraduate degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.

It is desired that a candidate have single-cylinder engine operation experience, including experience with combustion systems using diesel, natural gas & alternative fuels. Proficiency in a wide variety of test systems is required, including use of data acquisition systems (such as Caterpillar VDAC), high speed crank angle-based data acquisition system (such as AVL Indimeter), Vector Canape, Horiba gaseous emissions analyzers, AVL 415 smoke meter, emissions sampling systems such as MKS FTIR, AVL i60, and BG particulate matter sampling.
