Tier 2 Network Engineer

The Tier 2 Network Engineer is responsible for providing advanced technical support to resolve complex network issues and ensure optimal performance of network infrastructure. This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing network systems, as well as collaborating with Tier 1 support teams and other technical departments. The Tier 2 Engineer will handle escalated issues, participate in network improvement projects, and provide mentoring to Tier 1 engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshooting & Support:
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements for network infrastructure.
- Implement and maintain network security measures such as firewall configurations, VPNs, and security patches.
- Security & Compliance:
- Coordinate with external vendors for advanced troubleshooting and equipment replacement.
- Work closely with Tier 1 engineers, providing guidance, mentoring, and training as needed.
- Collaboration & Training:
- Provide detailed reports and updates to management on network health, issues, and performance metrics.
- Create and maintain accurate network documentation, including network diagrams, configuration guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Ensure seamless integration of new systems with existing networks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on network upgrades, expansions, and migrations.
- Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of new network infrastructure projects.
- Project Support:
- Assist with incident and problem management, including documenting and escalating major incidents.
- Conduct routine network maintenance, including firmware upgrades, patch management, and configuration updates.
- Monitor network performance to ensure reliability and optimal functionality.
- Network Maintenance & Monitoring:
- Provide root cause analysis for critical issues and implement permanent fixes.
- Diagnose and resolve advanced problems related to network hardware, software, and connectivity (e.g., wireless access points, switches, firewalls, VPNs).
- Resolve escalated network-related issues from Tier 1 support.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- 3-5 years of experience in network administration, support, or engineering roles.
- Experience with LAN/WAN, VPNs, and various network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Strong understanding of network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies.
- Proficiency in network troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, LogicMonitor, SolarWinds, or similar.
- Familiarity with network security best practices and technologies (e.g., firewall rules, IPS/IDS, VPNs).
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Availability for on-call support rotation or shift work as needed.
Education/Certification Requirements:
- CompTIA Network+
- Associate certification in Cisco, Check Point, Juniper, Palo Alto or Fortinet
- Professional certification in Cisco, Check Point, Juniper, Palo Alto or Fortinet
Compensation:
The base salary range for this position is $80,000- $100,000. This is an estimated range based on the circumstances at the time of posting, however, may change based on a combination of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, education, market factors, geographical location, budget, and demand. This position is also eligible for a bonus component that would be dependent on pre-defined performance factors. All compensation determinations are based on the skills and experience required for the position and commensurate with experience of selected individuals, which may vary above and below the stated amounts.
