Cad Detailer - Mechanical Engineering

We are seeking a CAD Detailer on a contract-to-hire basis who is eager to grow within a stable company known for its long-term employee retention. This role involves designing steel parts for aviation hangars, allowing you to see your designs come to life from sketch to production. We are looking for an entry-level or less tenured drafter with a passion for learning and a commitment to quality work.

Responsibilities:

• Draft building plans using 2D AutoCAD and Foxit for customer approval, permit applications, construction, and preliminary sales layouts.
• Review sales contracts, bid drawings, and documents before project initiation.
• Detail fabrication drawings for production assembly using 2D AutoCAD, ensuring accuracy and quality.
• Edit existing drawing models and generate new drawings as needed.
• Produce revisions to original building drawings for construction sets.
• Review packing list quantities and part number markings to ensure accuracy in planning.
• Take sketches or customer ideas and draft them to specification, ensuring dimensions are perfect for manufacturing.
• Interact with vendors and source parts from the start, with the potential to work with customers in the future.

Essential Skills:

• Proficiency in AutoCAD with experience in drafting fabrication drawings.
• Strong mathematical skills, especially in algebra, for quick quoting and dimension calculations.
• Mid to advanced Excel skills, including formula creation and BOM management.
• Experience with purchase orders, including checking for accuracy and writing them.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience with sheet metal and structural knowledge, including the ability to read structural prints.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with vendors and customers.
• Experience with Inventor or 3D design software is a plus but not required.

Work Environment:

The drafting lab is located on the second floor of a small, family-owned company with a welcoming atmosphere. Employees have the opportunity to see the manufacturing process firsthand as all fabrication is done in-house. The office is clean and offers a collaborative environment where team members are encouraged to work together and build strong relationships.

Job Type & Location:

This is a contract to hire position based out of Harvard, Illinois.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
