This position is accountable for supporting the bureau's research field investigations of all aspects of pavements, including design, construction, rehabilitation, preservation, management, and performance monitoring. Collection of field data occurs on a daily basis during the annual test season (approximately March 1 through October 31). Additionally, the incumbent reviews construction lettings and plans to document rehabilitation and preservation projects to record projects in the performance database and track activities reflected in the life-cycle maintenance models and assists with gathering performance data on various pavement sections to aid in performance analysis and determination of treatment.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews construction lettings to identify rehabilitation and preservation projects to track performance of various treatments.
  • Gathers distress data and other information used in determining appropriate rehabilitation or preservation strategies from project locations.
  • Coordinates with the Pavement Evaluation Section staff to identify non-destructive test data or develop testing requests for projects.
  • Reviews historical plans to identify missing records of rehabilitation or preservation activities on specific project locations.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience reading roadway and bridge construction plans
  • Ability to maintain professional and harmonious relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires a valid driver's license.
  2. Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  3. Requires occasional statewide and out-of-state travel with overnight stays.
