Position Overview

This position is accountable for directing nondestructive pavement testing field operations to support the roadway research and pavement management responsibilities of the Pavement Programs Section, and assisting with certification programs.

Essential Functions

• Determines the pavement testing needs, establishes priorities, and schedules testing to support the roadway research and pavement management responsibilities of the department.

• Ensures field measurements are obtained in accordance with established standards, collected roadway evaluation data is accurate to support research, and pavement management requirements.

• Ensures pavement evaluation equipment is calibrated, maintained, and enhanced to support the needs of the Bureau of Research and Office of Planning and Programming (OPP).

• Operates or assists with the operation of the field test equipment as manpower availability and scheduling dictates.

• Learns new equipment operating procedures, evaluates in-field potential, develops operating manuals, and instructs field personnel in proper operation.

• Assists staff in the Bureau of Research with data reduction of collected field data, reporting results to the districts and bureaus and enters results into databases.

• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret standardized test methods.

• Working knowledge of reading and interpreting roadway constructions plans.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Ability to maintain cooperative relationships.

Conditions of Employment

• Valid driver's license.

• Ability to physically lift 30 pounds.

• Occasional statewide and infrequent out-of-state travel with overnight stays.

• Successful completion of a background screening.
