ScottishPower deploys c. 400k meters per annum to meet its mandatory obligation for Smart Metering, through the deployment of metering assets using a 3rd Party Meter Asset Provider (MAP), and a Meter Operator Contract network. The Smart Programme is responsible for a plan of over £300m of funded investment in smart meter infrastructure over the next 5 years.
What you'll be doing
You'll lead and develop a highly efficient GB-wide logistics network for metering assets, devices, and supply chain services, including reverse logistics—retrieving, triaging, and disposing of faulty equipment from the field. Whilst developing cost-reduction strategies for prematurely removed meters, focusing on Early Termination Charges and broken units. With accountability for the quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of logistics and operations across the smart meter supply chain, including stock levels, delivery schedules, transport costs, and system performance.
You'll have full responsibility for planning, managing, and controlling all logistics and operational systems within the smart meter supply chain across Great Britain. This includes oversight of stock levels, delivery schedules, transport efficiency, and cost control. You'll lead all aspects of procurement, contract and supplier management, resource performance, compliance with metering standards, and documentation—ensuring seamless, cost-effective operations across a complex national network.
The role will involve travelling to oversee stock audits and controls to ensure that the company policies, health, safety and welfare procedures in relation to the general upkeep of all store premises are being implemented and adopted. Furthermore, you will liaise with the Technical team to determine test schedules for new technology releases and sampling of faulty meters to identify common trends within the metering infrastructure.
What you'll bring
You should have extensive experience in business, technical, or numerate disciplines and a strong track record in contract and operational management, with a strong focus on delivering first class customer service. The job requires proven leadership in logistics or industrial environments, with expertise in meter refurbishment and stock control. Furthermore, you will need to motivate, coach and develop your team's experience and skillset in utilities sector logistics and materials management. With highly developed influencing and negotiation skills and the ability to obtain buy in from all levels of the organisation using excellent written and verbal communication skills
