Lead Engineer (HVDC)

Location: Cambuslang OR Hunterston

Salary: From £60,800 to £76,000 + Excellent Benefits

You will be supporting the operation of some of the largest converter stations in Scotland, ensuring the efficient transmission of energy across the UK via expansive subsea cables and contributing to the UK’s Net Zero Target.

You will lead, coach and provide technical guidance to a team of people to maximize productivity, quality and effectiveness, ensuring the Substation and associated plant are inspected, maintained and operated in line with company policy and legislative requirements.

What you'll be doing:

  • Communicate openly (formally and informally) to the team the issues facing the business and the section, setting, discussing and reviewing targets and performance.
  • Involve the team in finding solutions to the areas where performance is not on target.
  • Manage performance by celebrating success and by dealing with poor performance.
  • Develop an understanding of the relevant trade union agreements.
  • Manage the development of assigned trainees.
  • Carry out site and operational audits on your team.
  • Actively manage any current O&M contracts along with negotiation and agreement of any future contract, ensuring effective delivery and financial forecasting to achieve out-performance targets.
  • Ensure team is aware of and complies with Company Health, Safety and Environmental requirements and update them on particular issues as they arise working with your team towards a zero accident culture and a sustainable path to Net Zero.
  • Capture feedback and issues from Operational Safety and Compliance Audits, Quality Audits etc and address any non-conformances.
  • Provide monthly updates on performance and develop and implement agreed solutions to areas of concern.
  • Comply with OFGEM and internal levels of service.
  • Respond appropriately to Customer Complaints, taking ownership and resolving as appropriate.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to all aspects of your operation and instil this in your team. Actively promote customer service standards within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure assigned resources are deployed to maximum effectiveness.
  • Minimize travel and non-productive time.
  • Develop enhanced operational skills to become multi-disciplined e.g. if SAP develop protection skills and vice versa.

What you'll bring:

  • Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation. i.e. Fluorinated Gas Regulations.
  • Awareness of network development policies and procedures.
  • Developed customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of network and business data and network management systems.
  • General commercial & regulatory awareness.
  • Developed negotiation, communication and people management skills.
  • Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
  • Working knowledge of industrial relations framework.
  • Knowledge of Employment Law.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Knowledge of transmission plant standards, specifications and commissioning procedures.
