The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $95,000 $107,375

Job Summary

The Engineer will perform basic to moderately complex power systems engineering analysis, design, and calculations related to the repair, replacement, maintenance, or new construction of electric distribution infrastructure. Work is completed with minimal guidance from a mentor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering analysis, design, and calculations using standard methodologies and principles.
  • Develop and present design concepts, evaluate alternatives, and create action plans for service connections, in-service issues, or process improvements.
  • Prepare, review, and interpret drawings (e.g., site plans, schematics, one-line diagrams, material specs).
  • Apply design standards, industry codes, criteria, guidelines, policies, and procedures appropriately.
  • Recommend solutions and best practices for both standard and non-standard situations.
  • Identify and specify equipment; assemble construction documents and work breakdown structures.
  • Represent Distribution Infrastructure Engineering on project teams.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced colleagues and team members.
  • Review engineering work of drafters, designers, and fellow engineers.
  • Follow processes and standards to meet customer and stakeholder needs.
  • Promote cross-functional teamwork and collaboration.
  • Mentor junior engineers in distribution design and engineering development.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to design systems for straightforward situations.
  • Promote and adhere to company safety policies and practices.
  • Take responsibility for personal and team safety and health.
  • Develop and manage small projects, processes, and initiatives per UI guidelines.
  • Coordinate engineering phases for assigned projects/programs.
  • Plan, schedule, monitor, and control budgets, estimates, construction plans, and material orders.
  • Stay updated on industry developments through training and associations.
  • Assist in storm restoration efforts as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Theoretical engineering knowledge in planning, operations, and design.
  • Practical engineering experience in planning, operations, design, and construction.
  • Ability to perform economic analyses and develop business cases.
  • Proficiency in engineering documentation and interpretation.
  • Ability to review and approve engineering work for compliance.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory standards.

Functional Competencies

  • Experience in Power Systems Engineering and related business practices.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, explain complex issues, and meet deadlines.

Education & Experience

  • BS/BA in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 2–5+ years of experience in power delivery systems engineering.
  • Experience with technical drawing or Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is required.
