Electrical Test Engineer Intern
The Test Facilities Operation, and Engineering (TFOME III) Team, which includes Troy7, Sierra Lobo, HX5, Amentum & MSM, is currently seeking an Electrical Test Engineer Intern to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC). The role may be assigned to HX5 or one of the other teammate companies. The TFOME team at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the aeronautics, space power, and propulsion test facilities.
Responsibilities:
The Electrical Test Engineer Intern will work with Senior Engineers in the planning, design, and technical execution of electrical engineering/technical tasks for a wide variety of electrical systems including, test related apparatus, and specialty hardware for an assigned test or facility project at a research test facility. Duties and responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- Work directly with NASA and TFOME engineers. This could involve cross-disciplinary teamwork, where communication and collaboration between different teams are crucial for success.
- May develop and test technologies related to aviation, such as improving aircraft designs, studying aerodynamics, or enhancing flight safety. Or related to space exploration, researching propulsion systems, scientific research, satellite development, or other space-related initiatives.
- May develop, execute, or review tests for systems, equipment, for aircraft or spacecraft. This could include things like structural testing, environmental testing, thermal tests, vibration testing, and more ensuring everything meets the standards for aviation or space missions.
- Test projects might include design of electrical systems and or test hardware, overseeing electrical hardware fabrication, electrical system and hardware installation, writing specifications for hardware and test requirements, and final report generation. Test projects cover a wide variety of test types in many facilities including wind tunnels, air-breathing engine and engine component facilities, acoustic chambers, space propulsion (chemical and electrical) and space environment chambers including cryogenic applications.
- Analyze electrical system requirements to match system capabilities with test requirements.
- Prepare documentation, specifications, and purchase requisitions for electrical hardware/software specifications for electronic/electrical equipment supporting facility development efforts. Evaluating vendor proposals and provides technical recommendations for procurement.
- Program, setup, maintain, and troubleshoot PC/Unix based systems, data acquisition systems, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
- Integrate controls and instrumentation into PLC hardware and software.
- Design and specification of instrumentation, signal conditioning equipment, and integration with data acquisition systems.
- Develop and update schematics, drawings, calibration documentation, technical procedures, and quality control (ISO 9001) documentation.
- Design and maintain communication networks running over TCP/IP.
Qualifications:
Must have a combination of the following:
- Must be working in and completed a minimum of 2 years curriculum towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Able to work with Senior Engineers in the planning, design, and technical execution of electrical engineering/technical tasks and project management for a wide variety of electrical systems including, control, and data systems for facilities, test related apparatus, and specialty hardware for an assigned test or facility project at a research test facility.
- General knowledge/experience of one or more aspects related to Electrical, Electronic, Data Systems or Computer Engineering are highly desirable.
- Knowledge of C++, Fortran, Visual Basic, AUTOCAD, MATHCAD, and SPICE are highly desirable. Familiarity with MS Office products is a must.
- Knowledge of National Electric Code and familiarity with Hazardous Area, ISA Standards where applicable, and general OSHA safety classifications are highly desirable.
- Understanding of power distribution systems to 480 VAC, basic semiconductor device theory, steady state and transient data acquisition systems are highly desirable.
- Understanding of specialized devices such as limit switches, pressure, vacuum and flow switches, proximity detectors, flame and combustible gas detectors, photocells, thermocouples, transducers, etc. desirable.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to quickly integrate into a team environment.

- Must be a US Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
