Senior Material Engineer

Huawei Helsinki Hardware System Lab is seeking a forward-thinking Senior Material Engineer to act as our technology scout and strategic partner in Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct deep-dive analysis of industries where material science leads globally (e.g., luxury goods, automotive, semiconductors) to extract possible insights and technology trends.
  • Write analysis report about industry findings to guide R&D department.
  • Exploring advanced structural and functional materials resources across European universities, research institutions, and specialized suppliers.
  • Establish technical collaboration projects, manage sample verification workflows, and deliver high-quality technical analysis reports.
  • Lead the identification of key strategic directions in materials and processing.

Required qualifications and skills:

  • Master's degree or above in material science, physics, mechanics, manufacture, or mechanical engineering. Ph.D. degree is preferred.
  • Skilled in quickly understanding consumer electronics needs and translating them into material technical specifications; experience in this task is preferred.
  • Good knowledge of structural and surface materials: such as composites and process technology (fiber/particle enhanced), metal and metal processing (Ti alloy, Al alloy, metallurgical powder processing like RSP/SPS), color ceramics and transparent ceramics, glass, bonding process technologies (metal-metal, metal-glass, glass-glass and other hybrid solutions), 3D printing (metal, ceramics or hybrid); Surface coating technologies for improving wear durability, colors, transmittance, and process for example PVD, plasma, etc.
  • Background in PVD related metal/alloy/ceramics/glass will be preferred.
  • Skillful in material validation and capable of handling material testing, for example, material fabrication, processing, characterization, etc.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. Good communication skills and multicultural environment adaptability.

Location: Helsinki, Finland

Contract Type: This is a full-time consultant position, the consultant shall be employed by Huawei's supplier. If you are interested, please submit your application before 30th March 2026.
