Quality Systems/Assurance Engineer

Howmet Aerospace has an immediate opening for a Quality Systems/Assurance Engineer in our Tooling Business Center at our Engines Products - Cleveland Operations Tempcraft facility located at 3960 S. Marginal Rd. in Cleveland. The Quality Systems/Assurance Engineer will provide hands-on quality support and alignment to manufacturing, inspection, and engineering. This person will be expected to interact and establish a healthy, positive relationship with our suppliers and customers. The Quality Systems/Assurance Engineer will help achieve our business objectives through process stability (control), operational excellence (capability), and ongoing process control (sustainability).

This is a 1st shift position working Monday-Friday.

Howmet Engines is a world-class producer of aero engine and industrial gas turbine components, including airfoils, rings, disks and forgings. We excel in vacuum melted superalloys, machining, performance coatings, and hot isostatic pressing for high-performance parts that enable the next generation of quieter, more fuel-efficient aero engines and cleaner power generation.

Essential Functions:

  • Be the AS9100 expert in the business center, ensuring conformity to those requirements.
  • Act as customer service liaison between our facility and the casting plants.
  • Approve new and revised Activity Instructions in the Patterns Business Center.
  • Determine the root cause of any deviation from a critical process specification and develop a timely and formal reaction plan which will include an escalating help chain system. The help chain system will include the notification of the local plant Operations Manager and Plant Manager.
  • Understand downstream product quality as it relates to wax and react appropriately to observed conditions.
  • Routinely review process for adherence to established techniques and to ensure the repeatability of approved process.
  • Ensure that our quality meets customer defined requirements.

Job Responsibilities and Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following elements:

  • Conduct annual internal audits per AS9100 requirements.
  • Lead external audits.
  • Review and implement quality system changes.
  • Manage Material Testing database.
  • Drive root cause on Corrective Actions to reduce Returns.
  • Supplier scorecards for On-Time Delivery and Returns.
  • Communicate with customers for problem resolution.
  • Receive communication from customers to resolve issues internally and externally.
  • Interact with leadership and operations to manage quality.
  • Support and be aligned with all EH&S metrics; actively participate, promote, and comply with all EH&S programs and policies.

Qualifications

Job Specifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering and/or a combination of five years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • AS9100 Lead Auditor Certification preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all strata of the organization.
  • Be punctual in meeting assignments.
  • Have cooperative and loyal teamwork attitude.
  • Heavy Excel abilities including formulas, pivot tables.

Experience:

  • This position requires a minimum of five years in a manufacturing environment including planning, purchasing, and scheduling roles and responsibilities.
  • Experience and understanding of AS9100 strongly preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Occasional bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling when retrieving and moving various items.
  • Lifting intermittently of various items. Typically, assistance would be provided for weights exceeding 35 pounds.
  • Oral communication via telephone or in person while interacting with customers, suppliers, or other employees.
  • Position may require more than eight hours daily and more than five days weekly to complete work assignments.
  • Sitting in chairs (swivel, padded, and adjustable).
  • Squatting / crouching when retrieving stored items from lower shelves and file cabinets, making equipment / product inspections, etc.
  • Standing intermittently.
  • Visual monitoring of computer screens.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Equipment Used:

  • Computer, telephone and other office equipment.

Work Environment:

  • The duties of this position are performed throughout the entire floor space. Duties are performed in both an office setting and in manufacturing areas where compliance with applicable safety rules is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level is moderate. During periods of travel, duties could be performed in conference centers, restaurants, places of public accommodation, modes of travel, etc.

  • This position has no direct reports. This could change after evaluation by the Quality Manager and Plant Manager.
