Core responsibilities include independently reviewing customer supplied specifications to assess feasibility of Powell manufacture or supply, reading and interpreting electrical drawings, proactively anticipating highly complex application concerns, translating conceptual customer designs into meaningful proposals, generating accurate proposals, ensuring proposed solutions are optimized for Powell and the customer, utilizing independent judgment to address customer application concerns, providing value engineering, performing competitive evaluation of sub vendor proposals, acting as an internal technical resource, mentoring and training junior personnel, assisting Powell sales personnel with technical discussions, interacting with other Powell divisions to develop cross business solutions, and assisting in providing feedback for and maintaining accuracy of various costing tools. Secondary responsibilities include performing analytical or competitive studies, participating in sales and marketing activities, contributing to new and existing product specifications, assisting in developing formal internal proposals, and participating in executing cost out initiatives. Key functions include preparing detailed, accurate and cost competitive proposals, utilizing technical expertise as an internal mentor/resource, participating in external customer meetings and/or conferences, and assisting with maintaining accuracy of cost tools. Knowledge and skills required include building and maintaining a working knowledge of electrical theory and applicable industry standards, familiarity with low & medium voltage distribution equipment ratings and design, familiarity with substation design, familiarity with DC systems, UPS systems, HVAC and pressurization, ability to read and interpret electrical specifications, ability to recognize potential equipment application issues at the proposal stage, creatively solving equipment application issues for challenging customer requests, excellent verbal and written communication skills, customer orientation, ability to manage multiple priorities, problem solving, ability to work independently with little or no supervision, ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities, and proficiency in Visio, Auto CAD, Inventor, Microsoft Office Suite. Qualifications include a B.S. in relevant engineering discipline, 5+ years of experience in related field, computer skills in AutoCAD, ERP system Oracle, Microsoft Office Suite, previous experience utilizing projects related software, and the ability to learn new software programs. Satisfactory background check and drug test results are also required.
