Peer Support Specialist

The Peer Support Specialist is a key associate at Hope Network whose primary responsibilities include: Providing flexible services aimed at supporting, directly or indirectly, persons served. This position provides expertise that professional training cannot replicate. They often act as a consultant to other team members, helping them understand the persons' served perspectives and subjective experiences. This position has a high degree of personal integrity, generates positive energy, and makes a difference every day.

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Providing supreme customer services
  • Providing and/or assisting with transportation related to personal care, community living supports, employment and/or planned activities
  • Engaging persons-served in problem solving, skill training, side-by-side activities, and monitoring their well-being
  • Assisting with facility and vehicle maintenance
  • Participating in the Family/Guardian/Friends Liaison Program activities
  • Documenting on the progress, or lack of progress, towards goals of persons-served
  • Adhering to applicable licensing rules, accreditation standards, Codes of Ethics, and New Passages' Policies and Procedures
  • Adhering to high level of health and safety practices
  • Functioning as a team member and actively participating in team staff meetings

Educational and talent requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Personable, positive, and enthusiastic attitude, with capability to deal effectively with people (internal and external)
  • Ability to see the individual value of persons-served and staff peers rather than viewing them only through their organizational role
  • Basic knowledge and skill in simple arithmetic, operating household procedures, basic nutrition, cooking, cleaning, performing routine household tasks and maintenance
  • Firsthand knowledge of characteristics and conditions experienced by consumer population
  • Ability to solicit alternate funding through donation solicitation and other fundraising activities

Work experience requirements:

  • Two years of related experience
  • Certified Peer Support Specialist preferred
  • Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator license
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the use of technological advances

In order to be considered for the Peer Support Specialist position ($14.00 - $17.00 depending on certification), you must be able to reply yes to the following questions:

  • I have a high school diploma, General Education Diploma (GED), or can provide college transcripts in lieu of a high school diploma or GED.
  • It has been more than one year since I was first diagnosed with a mental health condition with a substantial life disruption.
  • I self-identify that I have a mental health condition with a substantial life disruption and will share parts of my recovery story in providing support to others.
  • I agree to attend the five-day peer support specialist training. If I miss any time, I understand I will need to repeat the session and may be required to re-take the entire training.
