Job Purpose

Executes tests and validates concepts and component designs, relative to project goals and schedule milestones.

Key Accountabilities

Development Testing & Execution

Lead and execute development tests to meet objectives while minimizing hardware risks. Troubleshoot issues during testing and document resolution efforts.

Data Acquisition & Post-Processing

Set up and calibrate instrumentation and communication systems (analog and CAN). Monitor data quality during tests and post-process results to generate actionable insights.

Test Request Creation

Prepare and submit detailed development test requests with clear objectives, expected outcomes, and procedures. Develop and maintain efficient, repeatable test protocols aligned with project timelines.

Test Reporting

Produce clear, timely test reports that communicate results and conclusions. Collaborate with peers and incorporate relevant prior test and simulation data to inform next steps.

Presentation of Results

Create and present tailored summaries of key test findings to relevant teams and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment with project goals.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, with an emphasis in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics. 1-3 experience with development and testing of powertrains or similar hardware. Experience presenting ideas and data, communicates effectively to team Previous testing experience including setup and maintenance, development of test plans, data acquisition and analysis. Previous technical report writing experience. Previous project management experience using MS Project. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in team environment. Ability to work under minimal supervision. Ability to be self-directed, detailed oriented who can effectively work well under pressure in a diverse environment.

1-3 years of experience with measurement and data logging equipment. Ability to plan, organize, schedule and coordinate activities for self-based on an evaluation of work needs and an estimation of timing. Good mechanical skills and experience. Ability to identify and resolve routine problems in area of expertise. In depth knowledge of engines. Hands-on experience with specialized engine measurement equipment and tools. Hands-on experience with failure mode testing and analysis. Strong PC and software knowledge including MS Office and MS Project. Previous experience with Pi, Atlas, (or equivalent) software.

Working Conditions

  • Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist while working.
  • Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees to work on close to the groundwork.
  • Crawling.
  • Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet to work underneath suspended vehicles/engines/equipment to diagnosis problems and or remove replace parts.
  • Standing for sustained periods during work or events.
  • Sitting. Extensive travel and long travels.
  • Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks (particularly walking long distances at the track to pit lane and around shop)
  • Lifting. Raising objects of 25 pounds from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while servicing / maintaining a race engine, vehicles and equipment.
  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat and exposure to chemicals.
