Purpose of the Position

  • Provide leadership for the manufacturing engineering department within a matrix environment
  • Ownership of the manufacturing engineering strategy so as to deliver the factory of the future manufacturing vision using best in class manufacturing techniques
  • Provide professional development for manufacturing engineers
  • Make sure that D-FMEA is shared with Value Streams and make sure that the draft version of P-FMEA is shared with the Manufacturing Engineer from the Value Stream [support te Value Stream with P-FMEA development]
  • Responsible for plant maintenance
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance and improvement of production methods, ensuring that HS&E requirements are adhered to
  • Participate in news product development, engineering changes to ensure timely execution on cost

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Safety

  • Ensuring all lost time incidents are reporting and investigated
  • All risk assessments are carried out and maintained
  • Accountable for all safety incidents within manufacturing engineering

Quality

  • Ensuring quality standards
  • Ownership of all material item masters within ERP
  • Promote a culture of RCCA

Delivery

  • Act as the main interface/conduit between the Value streams and R&D functions, facilitating improvements to the assembly process through product/process changes in a timely manner including NPD
  • Full ownership and development of the E2E value stream maps
  • Creation and ownership of Std hour
  • Creation and updating of ERP product master data, including the BOM and product routings
  • Management of ECO implementation and tracking
  • Creation and updating of all Standard Operating Procedures
  • Responsible for Cell design and line layout
  • Liaise with NPI team to ensure that all new products are transferred into manufacturing on time and on cost
  • Provide training to a value stream team on new products
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice manufacturing engineering; planning vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance and support the PSC growth strategy
  • Develop detailed work instructions for the assembly of the machine range ensuring they are assembled to correct technical standards utilizing tools and fixtures to remove any H&S or Quality Assurance risks
  • Create plans and budgets in support of the PSC growth strategy
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the facility

Inventory

  • Work with VSM and Logistics to ensure that the correct material replenishment method is defined and in line with PSC inventory policy
  • Define the runner, repeater, stranger strategy in line with the VSMs and logistics manager

Productivity

  • Promote & develop a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Implement and manage continuous improvement principles by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes
  • Optimize value stream and factory layout
  • Reduce waste and variance by applying Lean tools and principles in order to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Deliver productivity improvements in line with PSC KPIs
  • Lead the value stream 6S and KAIZEN programs
  • Prepare and create Capital expenditure requests to support the VSMs in line with budget
  • Deliver productivity improvements
  • Work across the Value stream and act as a functional expert in order to support the Value Streams with Manufacturing Engineers skills/competences development

People

  • Manage the Manufacturing Engineering team, performance management and development, assessing priorities and providing direction to ensure all tasks are completed to the highest of standards
  • Ensure all training and skills development programs are up to date and maintained
  • Promote a culture of high accountability, empowerment and high engagement
  • Development and management of the manufacturing engineering governance model to follow standard work at daily, weekly & monthly levels in alignment with the site's overall governance framework and policy deployment
  • Bring to life each day our HIAB values of caring, reliable and pioneering and demonstrate these behaviors in his/her leadership style

What You'll Need to Succeed

Education:

  • Degree caliber preferably Mech Eng., Manufacturing Eng. Innovation or Digitalisation
  • Msc or post graduate qualification in manufacturing
  • Lean Six Sigma black or green belt

Working experience:

  • 7 to 10 years' experience in a working in a manufacturing engineering
  • 5 years' experience in a management role
  • Knowledge of techniques and tools for process improvement (six sigma)
  • In depth knowledge and experience of DFMEA, FMEA, APQP, PPAP and Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD and ERP systems
  • Experience of New Product Introduction, reworking design changes and upgrades through to production

Skills and competencies:

  • Technical knowledge of volume manufacturing engineering practices including Factory 4.0
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Problem solving capability
  • Strong project management skills
  • Critical thinking and decision making
  • Proven strong focus on Health & Safety, Q.A.
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team, high paced and multi-task environment
