Hōhepa Support Worker

Working at Hōhepa, you become part of our community of people, staff, volunteers, and contractors who all have a common goal - helping people to reach their full potential and lead enriched and meaningful lives in a holistic, supportive environment. We are a community leader providing services and support for people living with an intellectual disability to live their best lives and find a valued place in our society. Inspired by Dr Rudolf Steiner's principles of anthroposophy, we seek to understand each person and situation as unique, not a one size fits all philosophy.

About the Role

Lamb and Marker Service is a single staffed service and is located at Hōhepa's main campus in Somerfield and provides dedicated care and support for five individuals with high support needs and dementia, including one person who is deaf. Four of the individuals require day-to-day support, while one requires partial support.

We are currently seeking compassionate and experienced Support Worker to join our team in a wake-over support capacity. This is a single-staffed service, and prior caregiving or equivalent experience is essential.

Wake-over shifts require staff to remain awake and actively engaged throughout the night, ensuring the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of the people we support. While you'll be working independently during your shift, strong communication skills are vital for providing a thorough verbal handover to the morning staff and for maintaining clear, comprehensive notes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with personal care and morning routines
  • Offering emotional support and companionship
  • Monitoring wellbeing and reporting any concerns
  • Performing light household duties such as cleaning and meal preparation
  • Assisting with medication management
  • Providing hourly turns

About You

You'll be energetic, team focused, empathetic, and confident in working alongside people with diverse needs. You'll have a strong ability to read situations, apply boundaries, problem-solve, and offer space when needed. Confidence in personal care, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks is essential.

Experience or willingness to learn alternative communication methods (e.g., NZSL or visual cues) to support a person who is deaf is highly valued.

Most importantly, you'll be passionate about supporting people to live rich, meaningful lives and helping them stay connected to their wider community.

If you're looking for a new challenge, this could be the opportunity for you.

This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.50 and $29.10 per hour.

Rostered hours:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday 11pm to 7am
