Under general direction, coordinates and supervises Laboratory Support Services (LSS), which may include specimen collection, pick-up, and transport, order-entry, specimen processing, storage, and delivery, result reporting and archiving, and specified pathology billing activities. Develops short range goals and objectives for the section and performs other related duties as required.
1. Leads Laboratory Support Service operations to register, order, collect, and process laboratory specimens in an efficient manner to meet customer needs.
2. Develops and implements procedures governing the collection, registration, order-entry, processing, customer service, and delivery of laboratory specimens. Provides training on the proper use of information systems, collection, processing, and telephone skills.
3. Recommends staffing levels to meet customer service standards. Plans work schedules and work assignments as needed. Develops key performance indicators aligned with a culture of exceptional customer service. Tracks and trends key metrics to guide continuous improvement.
4. Manages the employee hiring process including developing and updating job descriptions, providing thorough onboarding and communicating clear performance expectations. Identifies essential job duties and the skill sets required for areas of responsibility. Leads the interview, selection, on-boarding, competency assessment and coaches the development of all staff.
5. Provides supervision and leadership as assigned to ensure consistent service, resolve problems and adjust to changes in activity.
1. Two (2) years of college level education.
2. Four years of progressive responsibility in a clinical laboratory setting in a laboratory support role to ensure familiarity with terminology, and workflow in an accredited laboratory.
3. For positions supervising phlebotomy, minimum of one year experience collecting and teaching blood sample collection by venipuncture and skin, puncture for patients at all age levels.
